Need some reassurance/Advice..

Hey.. hoping someone here has been in a similar situation or knows someone who has, and can offer me some reassurance/advice...

So my period is a week late.. now it is almost impossible for me to be pregnant.. the last two times I have had sex since my last period, a condom was used, and my bf did not ejaculate inside of me.. so it is unlikely that I am pregnant. however I am still freaking out and thinking what if??!

My periods are usually regular, but not like clockwork.
The only thing that I think may be delaying my period is, about 6 weeks ago I was very ill, and was on a high dose of corticosteroids for about 2 weeks. The dosage was then tapered down over the following two/three weeks, so I was on them for about a month approx. I got my last period in the middle of this and it was lighter than usual - I put this down to the steriods and also the stress/trauma from being so sick...

My question is why would I get my period whilst on the meds, and then not get it when I am off them and fully recovered?! That is why I am freaking out about being pregnant! I have heard corticosteroids can affect menstruation but I thought that was only if you are on them long term, also this was never said to me by the doctors/nurses as a possible side efffect..

Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation before? I really am so scared :(

The best way to put your mind at rest is to buy a pregnancy test. In fact, buy two different brands.

If you're normally regular and you're a week late, then a home pregnancy test should be fairly definitive. There's no point in stressing about "what ifs", just go do a test :)

If Corticosteriods can affect menstruation over the long-term, then they can also affect it in the short-term.

If the pregnancy test is negative, take one test per week until your period returns.
