A few questions asked by Robert Troy TD….

    and the answers...

    NBS
After the expiry of the NBC contract in July 2014, tariffs for NBS customers will be determined by the service provider in accordance with market forces and conditions.

    RBS
The full details of how this competition will be designed and run are not yet finalised. However, I can confirm that the scheme is designed to subsidise the initial capital cost of providing the actual physical broadband connection and, that under the rules applying to the EU funding for the scheme, we are precluded from subsidising monthly tariffs for the service provided.

    So
    NBS: Subsidised 3's rollout
    RBS: Subsidise Dish installs

Neither is any use for Cloud services, online gaming, serious traffic. Neither will deliver a single broadband connection ever.

It's very simple. To the Civil Service and their Mobile Funded Analsys Mason advisors anything that is not analogue dialup is regarded as Broadband, when it's just Internet.

It appears the actual politicians don't decide anything.

It seems though, once again, the department are blaming the EU for state aid conditions that don't exist.

What DCENR say about subsidising charges.
under the rules applying to the EU funding for the scheme, we are precluded from subsidising monthly tariffs for the service provided.

What the EU say about subsidising charges.
The broadband product to be provided by the measure will be benchmarked with tariffs and products typically available on the Irish market

DECNR are determined to roll out satellite and nothing will deflect them from this goal. Forget Digital Agendas and such like the easy solution is the only one as far as they are concerned.
