Dropped my car in for a service and they told me my brake pipe burst while in there. Seemed to work fine for me but they said it was bound to happen soon as it was rubbing against the bracket...

Anyway I have no idea, it might have. My question is, I had to get a taxi from the centre as there were no buses. Do you think I could charge it to them as I had no other way of getting home and I dodn't expect my brakes to go while it was in there.

So you want to charge them for saving your life.

If you have ever suffered brake failure you'd be kissing their butts for discovering the defect.

..yeah I am a bit dubious. Like I said I drove in there and they were working fine. Forgive me for being skeptical, it's not like this type of thing doesn't happen.

Before this descends into a free for all, keep to the OP's original question.

Even if the garage were being rough and strained a flexi hose while changing pads maybe, the fact that it failed really does mean that it was unsafe and I think you should bring them a box of roses when you go back.
Ive had burst brake hoses twice. The problem with weak/damaged hoses is that they will only fail when you step on the brakes i.e. exactly when you need them. It scary stuff so be glad that you didnt end up dead or involved in a major insurance claim.

In a world where 'I didn't expect' means 'It's your fault' then yes, you could charge them for the taxi. Not here in the real world, though.:)

definitely not in a position to charge the garage. their responsiblity is to ensure your car is serviced.

it would be great if you could charge them though...
