I have roughly two acres which i had to burn of and spread a heavy coat of pit slurry on [council inspection] had intended reseeding but am now thinking about kale.
Has anyone any knowlege about how to sow or is it worth it maybe there is something better.
This area is alongside an old cubicle house so hope to use this

Sowing is similiar to beet/turnips/cabbage. Cattle do well on it initially and when their finished sheep will mop up the rest. Thats what the connections in Wexford tell me anyways:)

sounds like a handy setup.sow from now on. plough, and land leveling is nearly enough and just mix seed through manure and drive a little closer.or afew runs of the discs works grand too.do not cover just roll.4 bags of 10-10-20 now with can later on

I dont think that is legal lads to be importing non Department certified seed, I have taught about it as I would save a '000 if I could import what I like. be careful.

i am not saying you are wrong but if it was not allowed it would have been stopped at port or post office or where ever it comes in just like the drugs and other dangerous products,i tried to get vaccine like this in from america and it was stopped got a letter from customs saying it was not permitted.got it sent to my sister in london the other day still in her fridge.

Plough till sow a littel deper than grass seed is the best
last 2 years we have sprayed round up then direct drilled to avoid stones and keep field FIRM for grazing works very well my favourite Maris Kesteral

www.Seed Direct cheap for all seed will deliver next day cash with order
    ----Other comments
    Spray 5 days pre mowing:

Best Product to knock out grass Eamonn will be Round Up Biactive @ 4L/Ha
    Price €95+Vat for 20L = €19+vat/ha

    Alternative use Rosate @ 5.0L/HA plus a wetter called Kantor @ 1L/1000Lwater (200L/acre used)
    Price Rosate €57+vat for 20 L €14.25 +vat/ha
    Kantor €71+vat for 3 L € 4.73 + vat/ha

    ----

Kale recommendations in the absence of a soil test:

    Seed bed preparation absolutely critical.

    3 Bags 8:5:18+33%B (Beet fert). €420/ton
    2 Bags Gran Lime. €165/ton

Top Dress with 1.5 Bags CAN €320/ton

    Sowing Rate:
    4-5kg per Hectare drill
    6-8kg per Hectare broadcast

    VARIETY: Maris Kestral €60.00/5kg

In relation to seeding rate , upping the seeding rate you will have more smaller stemmed plants which may be more suitable for smaller heifers as the stems will not be as strong.

    Weed Control: usually not necessary.
Triplen can be used pre sowing, incorporate into top 5cm. Light soil 2L/Ha, med-heavy 2.3L/Ha

Pest Control: Flea beetle attacks at emergence, Dursban @ 1.5L/Ha

    Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Heres the plan going to power harrow the ground and then land leveller broadcast the seed with spreader pull bush over ground then roll putting in fertilizer at this stage.
    Hows does this sound?
