    hey there,

Just thought I would post in here, not really a question thread but more of a me venting thread.

Basically I am stuck in a rutt. I do the same thing everyday, wake up, wash up, go on the pc for an hour or two, call my mate and hang out til it's time to go home to bed. Same thing 5 or 6 days a week. I am unemployed and have nothing to do. I have been unemployed for some time now aswell. I have a very bad leaving cert as I wasnt up to it when it came time to do it over a broken heart (story of many peoples lives I know)

I asked the colleges for information on how to become a mature student, turns out you have to be 23 the January the year the course starts. I'm 22 now so I won't be able to apply until 2013. That means two more years of my rutt. I have done a few courses with fas and have enjoyed them but they have not helped in any way of getting a job. I would like to do more but they don't like giving out courses one after the other so I usually have to wait awhile.

What I really wish is i could go to college, I think it's a shame I have to wait til 2013 and possibly waste more tax payer money by being unemployed. Maybe a call to my local TD might help? I doubt it.

Anyway there is more but I don't wana bore everyone :P Rant over or whatever you could call this. thanks for listening!

Why don't you go back and repeat your leaving cert?

Have you ever worked at all? What kind of jobs have you looked for?

It's easy to blame the government and the economy but it's your life at the end of the day and you need to figure out what you want to do with.

Have you set yourself any goals? You say you want to go to college? Why? To do something with your time/ have a good social life, or is there an actual career you want at the end? Are there other ways of getting into this career?

Have you thought about volunteering? There are organisations (I help run one) crying out for volunteers at the moment, even a couple of hours of your time each week. It will help you feel more worthwhile and you'll be doing something great.

What about an unpaid internship/ work experience in the area you would eventually like to work in?

You are only 22, there really is no excuse for you feeling crap about yourself laying around doing nothing every day when there is a whole world to be discovered out there. Only you can make this happen...

Best of luck with it. I hope you find what makes you happy! :)

I was thinking about going back and repeating my leaving cert alright but by the time I do that I will be able to go to college as a mature student anyway.

Yes I have worked. I have also been self employed as a freelance web developer and program developer. I have my life planned out if it had gone a little better but I am sure many are the same. I don't pretend to believe that I am very bad off, just hit a rough spot ;)

I didn't mean to blame the government at all. Infact I blame myself 100% for allot of wrong decisions a few years back that basically led me to where I am now.

If I was to go back to college I would ofcourse go into either something to further my skills as a programmer and developer or continue a hobby of mine of electrical tinkering by doign an engineering course. The student lifestyle as far as partying doesn't appeal to me. I have done all the partying already. I don't even go out now anymore as it doesn't appeal to me at all other then the socialising aspect ofcourse.

I have done a bit of volunteering alright with the local animal charities. I find it a good way to spend my time but I don't have a way to get to em most of the time so I kind of left it behind me.

Also I don't really feel crap about myself in so many words. I'm not self loathing or anything like that. I just made a few bad choices and it's those choices that led me to my rut. Right now I feel the only thing that can get me back on track is to attend college but I cant do that for a few years.

Thanks for your reply, and thanks for listening :)

You should definately go back and repeat, not only will you pass the time in a more interesting way but you will get a better leaving cert and have a better chance of getting into College. There are so many people going back as mature students due to the recession you need to give yourself the best chance possible....Just bite the bullet and go back to do your LC
