Just clocked up my 1000th mile on holiday in the states and have been pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. Chicago-Dayton-Cincinnati-*-Urbana-Chicago

*back and forth between the two a good bit

Splashed out on a corolla rental :D:D:D
Bit of a heap to be truthful, but has AC and CC so did the job, even with the "maint reqd" light on for the last 800 miles. Log book says this is just an oil change, and comes on every 5,000 miles only!!

Started of in Chicago at evening rushhour due to a late flight so the initial driving was pretty slow and steady and mad, 6 lanes of constant chopping and changing...

but soon got out of that onto highway and had trouble free driving since then.
found the roads pretty good, I like the turn right on red too I have to say and road signage is a million times better than here.

Petrol is for nothing too :pac: 3.89 a gallon or about 72c a litre:eek::eek:

American cars have gigantic blindspots, not sure why, but never noticed anything like in at home, entire trucks disappeared in the spot in the corolla and the other few cars I was in were equally bad. The left mirrors magnify more I think so cut off the edges or something

I want petrol at this price at home :(

So far I've only done a humble 450 miles in California......in two days. pacman.gif & i have to say it really hasnt been as daunting as i thought. Few things to get used to like you said, turning right on a red, & i've noticed the blindspot issue as well, so lots of looking over the shoulder. When turning onto a road i find saying righty tighty, lefty loosey works a charm at the start so you dont end up in oncoming traffic. eek.gif

Some of the concrete highways are horrible to drive on though.

I think they only allow flat glass in mirrors, giving a smaller field of vision. This was the case in any American trucks I drove in the past and may be the same for cars.
