Most modern TVs have a built in Freeview receiver but only a few have a Freesat receiver, which is what you are hinting at.

Best to quote the model number. Sony Bravia TVs with built-in Freesat tuner were not on sale prior to November 2009.

You need a set top box to receive the Saorview service and you would need another for Freesat, or you could go with a combi box that will do Saorview and FTA satellite in one box. No such box has been certified for Saorview yet. No Freesat box also does Saorview at the present time. TVs that do Freesat and Saorview are few and far between. Panasonic make the **G20B which has good reports, and Sony make the KDL32W7810 which is out of production but Powercity were flogging some recently, I do not know if they still have them.

    Hope that helps.

    Not 100% true.

Like the OP, I have a Sony Bravia (37W5500) with built-in Freeview, and I get Saorview fine.

The OP said he had an MPEG2 Sony Bravia, so could not receive Saorview. He therefore had to have a STB. Your set is a Sony Bravia, but a later version that does indeed have an MPEG4 tuner, and can therefore receive Saorview. The fact you both have Bravia TVs from Sony does not mean they are the same spec. Sony use the name Bravia for a lot of different TVs.

What I said is true for the OP as he stated he had MPEG2.

If there is an mpeg4 tuner yes mpeg2 - you will get sound but no picture as its mpeg4. You will however get all bbc etc
