Aww maaan, 3 o'clock start time....why so late? I'm gonna miss Tipp beat waterford in the Munster Final!!
Anybody got any nutrition tips for this race? I'm assuming a big Sunday roast 2 hours before start wouldnt be a good idea and Theres only so much porridge i can eat before 3pm!
Anyone know when we will be seeing a race briefing/wave start list?

Nuitrition, eat as you normally would on the day. During the race, maybe a gel a while before the start and a small amount of water on the bike.. or rinse your mouth with carb drink. Apart from that, nothing IMO.

Great race as usual. Only bad thing I can say about it is... #9 from cork tri club, you are a cheating c*nt.

    Somebody being drafting you Mloc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,454 ✭✭✭mloc123

yup, I was watching him getting dragged around for a few mins. I passed the two and told the first guy he had been towing somebody for a while... #9 then jumped onto my wheel and I towed him a few km until my tribar came loose... I had to sit up and he finally passed me and did some work of his own.

ahwell. Great race, lovely weather.. friendly crowd and its not often I am 2 mins out of the water after the lead man :)

Great race, Well done to all involved.

Any links to the results? No sign of them on the usual sites...

Yes it was a good race but I thought running out of water at the end was pretty shabby. Quite a lot of finishers didn't get any...

Anyone know how long there was between waves? Great if you were in the first wave you had the clock but the second wave the clock was useless as they never said how long between waves?

Wasn't a huge fan of going through the town on the bike course either - thought it was dangerous actually - had a guard signal and then yell at a motorist to stop but she kept going and nearly hit me, she did look genuinely confused when I glanced around, it was a mistake but it was still dangerous.

    Results would be good... :(

I think I saw the same ones drafting - that's first time I had seen it done so blatently. There was a pair at it, overtaking and retaking eachother. They passed me 2/3rds away along the cycle. If anything it motivated me to push harder!

Great tri, glad I did it.

    Get the results up please!!

Great race but pity about the drafters, that crap really annoys me. Are draft busters (the guys on the bikes) only in NS races?
Dont think i've ever had to wait this long to see results :(. I need to do my post race analysis!!

Might aswell stick my report in here:

    Morning:

Or afternoon as it was, 3pm start. Arrived down at got registered, racked and took the bike out for a quick test. Back to transition and left everything setup, it was getting close the briefing time so I decided to get my wetsuit on in plenty of time so I could get it up around my shoulders properly. 15mins to start I popped a gel, but the briefing still wasn't over.. the race was 20minues late, I don't know why. Walked up to the start and got into the water.. swam for a couple of minutes, felt good. Strong current but I was able to make my way upstream in it.

    Swim (19/148):

Lined up at the front, river is quite wide and only about 100 in the wave so plenty of room. 5,4,3... and off. I went hard enough at the start and settled into it then. There was a smallish looking pack up ahead so I tired to catch them, it broke up a bit and I passed some of them. Swam till my hands hit the steps and pulled myself out. Saw the clock, it was about 8:4x... good swim and I was happy. Glanced back up the river, still a good few swimming. Wetsuit down to my waist when I got to my bike.

    T1:

A bit slow here, fumbled with my helmet and a bit slow mounting my bike.

    Bike (26/148):

Got going straight away here, well after I got my feet into my shoes. The first 1km or so is through the town and went through about 6 junctions... one of which I missed, there was a guard on it but he was directing traffic... I went straight, should have turned left. The guy behind me shouted LEFT!! so I turned back.. lost a bit of time here, maybe 30 seconds.
From here on it was okay, started working and was holding decent wattage and passing people as I went. I expected to be caught by a few on the bike.. even to be overtaken by some of the ones I was passing but it didn't happen.

The first road out was pretty rrough, the top layer was cracked and patchy and I found it hard to stay on the bars and put the power down.. bike was 'hopping' a bit. We turned off this road and the new one, the surface was better and I could put the power down more consistently. I was watching some guy getting towed around ahead, when I passed I told the lead guy he had a passanger, not for long.. cheecky c*nt jumped on my wheel and I ended up towing him for a while instead. My left tri bar dropped after hitting a bump at one point, it was okay and I could still use it for a while but it worked its way looser to the point that I could no longer. I had to sit up on the hoods and kinda hold up the bar, I was afraid it would catch in the spokes.

Cheater came by then and a few more with him, I lost 5 places.. I was a little annoyed. I could have held all of these. Took it safely back to T2.

    T2:

In to a empty enough t2, maybe about 20 bikes in. I put my runners on but my left insole had doubled over. I made the choice... keep going.

    Run (34/148):

Insole was fine, a little uncomfortable but I could manage... it sorted itself out by the end of the run. I started off and was running at about 4:15, I was concerned that the pace would drop off but it didn't. It was a lonely run, I could see a group ahead(the ppl that passed me on the bike), maybe 500m and I hoped some of them would blow up... met one guy walking back 1km in... free place. At the turn point down to the river I hadn't made any ground on the group, lost sight of them now on the twisty river bank. second half of km 3 and all of 4 was on grass... paced dropped to 4:20, the ground was rough and it took a bit of concentration. Somebody caught and passed me at the 4km mark... he breezed by, must have been running 4min/k flat. I plugged away back to the 5km mark but it hurt.. I was concerned I was starting to fade. At the 5km mark I could see the fnish area, pulled it together and gave it whatever I had from here... 4:03/km for the last 600m.

    Finished 25th overall

Nice report and good result Mloc. This is one of my favourite races, I've done it the last two years but couldn't make it this year.

I just don't get the drafting thing, it's cheating plain and simple so I'm always surprised by how many people do it. The lack of enforcement at most races is also a pain, if the rules were enforced at every race then it would help.

Well done mloc, great racing and an excellent time for the swim. Fair play.

The drafting is annoying alright, but I guess nothing will ever happen here.

I had some shock when I saw I was 19th out of the water and only 40 seconds down on Colin Turner at that stage. Maybe I should stick to downstream swims :o
