HI i have a question from my friend in work today, he is married and had a 3 year old daughter and another one due in July. he is on a CE scheme and his wife doe not work. he is on the 19.35 hours a week and earns 350 aweek for all of them.

is there any entitlements he can get? help for cloths? new prams that kinda thing?

I know there is a Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance (BTSCFA) that helps you meet the cost of uniforms and footwear for children going to school.

but he could use some help with bedding prams and so on,

If he's entititled to FIS it will be a major boost to his weekly income especially with a second child on the way. I'm not sure about the pram but he should go see his community welfare officer.

He won't qualify for FIS if he's on a CE scheme

"FIS is a tax-free weekly payment for employees:
    • Working 19 or more hours per week (or 38 or more hours per fortnight). You can combine your weekly hours worked with your spouse/civil partner/cohabitant's to meet this condition. You cannot use time spent in self-employment to meet this condition.
    • Where the employment is likely to last at least 3 months
    • Looking after one or more children and
    • Earning less than a set amount which varies according to family size.
Generally the payment continues for one year and is not affected by, for example, an increase in earnings or other income in the family.
It is possible to qualify for FIS if you are getting the Back to Work Allowance. Your income must be less than the income limit set for your family size.
You cannot get FIS if you are taking part in a Community Employment Scheme or any other FÁS schemes except Job Initiative."

unfortunately you cannot get fis while on a ce scheme

op you should tell him to go to the cwo in his area they will help towards some of the items for the new baby

i don't think they pay out until after the baby is born

his wife should get a payment towards clothes for herself now during the pregnancy so tell him to inquire about that as well good luck with it

went with my mate and his wife and although i wasn't allowed in to the box with the SWO but when they finished this is what they were told:

6 weeks before the baby is born you apply for maternity clots for the mother and not before,

only when the baby is born they give you help for a pram and only if they feel you fit the requirements,

back to school clothing allowance is no longer in the domain of the CWO but ion the social welfare from now on and this will begin on June 30th from now on (not June 1st)

cheers to all who helped here.

yes not sure they will give money towards a pram because of the 3 yr old they will want to know what they have done with that childs stuff snd so on
at least she will get some clothes for herself which will help a little

its a double pram they they need you see. its hard enough to push one baby and handle a 3 yr old when the other is away at work.
