I have been thinking of setting up a recruitment agency specializing in the sales area and was wondering what advice people have on this.
I have no recruitment experience but have alot of sales experience and interview experience.
I would be hoping to set this up at the beginning from home to save costs and only employ myself.
I was wondering what pit falls are ahead ie competition, costs, needs for website, chances of success etc

You need to start working in an agency first before you even think of starting up a business.

If you have really good sales experience then you shouldnt find it hard to get work in a reputable agency. Recruitment is not easy work by any means. The hardest part is selling your services to businesses. How are you going to convince an american multinational that your one man show is going to fill jobs. If they had a surge of recruitment you wouldnt be able to meet the supply. There are plenty of good agencies that have closed down that couldnt keep going in the last few years.

Especially when you dont have an understanding of how an agency is even run. How are you going to attract candidates, where are you going to meet candidates? Are you going to advertise on job sites? Use Monster? What kind of database are you going to use? There are tons of things to consider.

I dont want to but a downer on the situation but until you get industry experience you should put it on the back burner.

Some good advice given - am I imagining it but are agencies required to be licensed ?

Yes good point license is needed as well, I think its about e500 a year and you cannot trade without one.
