Does anyone have any tips on playing Druids glen.
Lucky enough to be playing there tomorrow for the first time and bits of advice would be welcome.

Played there 2 weeks ago and the greens were very fast.

My best advice - use your head. If you start going for shots that you don't usually play/make, you'll get into a lot of trouble. There are plenty of strong doglegs so figure out where you need to be playing your approach from and drive to that point... sounds easy doesn't it!

As an example - the third hole is a short par four dogleg left. Your line from the tee should be the bunker on the right of the fairway. If you go left you're stuffed. You'll find a lot of that at Druid's Glen. Every hole is strong and enjoyable so you should love it.

The 1st is one of the easier holes on the course, but is index 4. It's basically a straight dunt down to an inviting green.

The 2nd is the least intimidating of the par 3s as there's no blue stuff.

After that it's about 8 holes in a row of doglegs, apart from the par 3 8th, which is majestic. The green is bigger than it looks.

Unless you're a mighty hitter, the 12th and 18th should be played like par 5s. The 12 requires a 120 yard water carry with your 2nd. The 18th is mostly uphill and is fortified like Bin Laden's cave.

Go straight over the dogleg on 13. There's a big landing area and you'll want to be going at the green with something short.

The 17th is a trick hole imho. It's an island green, with very little to hold your ball.

Enjoy yourself - what a great course. A good challenge on every hole.

Bring the bicycle clips for 13 'Na Sneachta' ;-)

Wow amazing course, really have to use your head.
Unfortunately it took me until about the sixth hole to get into it.
2 over for the last ten holes though which i was really happy with.
Although in fairness we were just playing off the green tees so cant really brag too much. But then again i think on some of the dogleg holes the green tees dont really help a lot because you can hit through the fairway too easily.
Although thats not a problem many regulars would have as their club selection would be much better.
Anyway it was a pleasent change to play a course that is just as much about course management as it is about who can drive the furthest!

Well done - par feels like birdie on both 13 and 18.

I would dearly love to play that course from the back sticks. Agree with the comment about the green tees almost being 'too forward' on some holes. Plus the indexes are all messed up off hte greens (1st being index 4 as mentioned). Very different hole off the back schticks.

You're right www, meant the 13th. That's impressive hitting. I creamed my drive on 13 and left myself around 230 to go. I did what any right-minded person would do at the stage and tried to murder a hybrid... inevitably leading to a top into the water.

18 probably isn't as long as the day we played it, into a 30mph breeze, but I remember thinking there's nowhere to lay it up to, even if I wanted. There's danger everywhere.

It's a smashing course, one of the most fun layouts I've seen.

    bttt
I have the delight of playing two rnds at Druids Glen nxt week in the final of a corporate event so never having played it I've been pouring over the threads here for wee titbits on it, especially the great write up in the courses guide thread. However I wanted to ask about traffic, coming from the North I don't do the M50 much at all, how long would it take me to get around it in the morning rush hour?? I have to tee off around 11, so don't want to leave things too tight timewise...
    Thanx in advance

I go the other way on the M50 so dont really see much, but should only take 30+mins from the toll. watch for the speedtrap at delgany/glen of the downs.
enjoy the golf, +1 on the positioning., Bogie golf will give you a great day out.
