Does anyone own a pair and what do you think of them? are they just another gimmick?

I've recently started doing a lot of walking and I'm wondering if they are any use before I part with my cash!

Also if there are any nicer looking ones around that you know of...ta

I heard a radio program recently about getting fitted for the right trainers, they had a woman in from one of the chain brand sports shop can't remember which..now she was peddling some footwear/preventative foot problems testing machine or something or other, so i'm not sure how biased her advice was but anyyywayyy...

I do remember a woman calling in and asking her about sketchers and her advice was that they really aren't meant for exercising, as they don't provide the proper support for your feet, As are a lot of the nike etc runners, they're more 'fashion' runners and don't provide any support for your feet, which makes sense i suppose and is maybe not so much an issue if you're only walking but if you want a trainer for proper exercise you're probably better off going into a sports shop and getting a proper good quality runner which is meant for exercise imho.

If you are asking in terms of fitness etc., then imo they are definitely a waste of money. You'd be better off investing in a pair of runners that provided your feet with the support they need. If you check out the Nike website, you can actually customise your own shoes.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but thought I might get some response here .......

My wife bought a pair of 'Crane' fitness walking shoes, which have proved extremely suitable for her. I think she got them in Aldi or Lidl ..... and they were nicely priced.

She wants to get something similar, and I came across Skechers Shape Ups ..... but they are on the dear side it seems, and it is proving difficult to find a stockist.

Any advice on where to search for this type of walking shoe? ...... one designed to roll the walker .....

Thanks for any info available .....

    regards.

I know Barratts stock the skechers shape ups.

I'm not much help re walking shoes Im afraid but Elverys seem to be pretty good for sports shoes and they do a gait analysis so you can choose the best type for the way you run (and maybe walk? - not too sure)

Seem to be good prices here, but I have no idea what they are like to deal with .... or what they charge for delivery.

If anyone has dealt with bags-ireland I would be grateful for your comment.

    Thanks.

Hi, I got a pair in Lifestyle Sports (connected to Heatons) think they were 40e. They are a god send to me, as since I broke my ankle couple of years back I find it painful to powerwalk in normal sports shoe wear, with these I can walk to my hearts content, no pressure on ankles or knees either. Do they tone you up any more than normal shoes? No!

Got a pair of Asics in the end as i'm taking up running.:D

I bought the Reebok Easytones back in Feb, and I found them awful! I broke them in gradually over a few weeks, but in the end, I couldnt wear them anymore as they were just too uncomfortable and really hard on my ankles. I went into Elverys in April, and bought a pair of Asics after getting the gait analysis done, and they are the best trainers I have ever had, they are great for walking and a bit of jogging. I think it depends on the individual, my mother has Shape-Ups for the past couple of years and swears by them she wears them every day!

I have a pair of Skecher shapeups (black). Now they wouldn't be suitable for running and jogging, but I would wear them with jeans to work, or if I know I'm going to be doing a lot of walking.

The first few weeks I wore them, I would really feel a tight sensation at the top of the thighs, just under my bum, when walking up a slope. The backs of my legs have definitely toned up, but then I've been walking a hell of lot more than I ever used to.

Thank you for that link ... I missed it :(

Not that I care about brand ..... I just want to get hold of a similar shaped shoe at a reasonable price.

    Gimmick all the way

If you are referring to whether the shoe shape helps or not then my wife would disagree most emphatically with you. This style shoe has allowed her to walk without pain.
That is not a gimmick. ;)

    regards.

if your wife is happy with them that's fine:) but was there a clinical trial?
Another marketing magic ,gimmicks and fads IMHO
