    Hiii!
I know everything about grant the adjecent and non-adjecent thing. My question is slightly different.
I knew a mature woman and she studied in UL (2008). She told me she got a grant for books and accommodation. I am looking for this type of grant bus it seems there isn't such a thing.
Does anyone know about this? What grant/scholarship would be the best for me if I won't live with my parents?

    Cheers.

k as best as i can tell you - if you get BTEA as opposed to VEC/County Council maintenance grant you get €500 per college year towards books etc.

then there is the Student Assistance fund which is administered directly through colleges. If you are suffering financial hardship affording such things as accommodation/books etc you apply to them, supply them all the information they request (such as incomings and outgoings) and they decide if you qualify and how much for.

    hope this helps :)

grant and county council maintenance are the same thing. you get from the vec if you are doing levels 5/6/7 and from the coco if doing level 8.

unfortunately up until two years ago you COULD claim both BTEA and maintenance but the govt did away with that. sorry :)

You can't get both BTEA and a grant but you can still get the €500 towards books.

    Back to Education Allowance

If you are getting Back to Education Allowance you will not be eligible for a grant. However, this does not affect any entitlement you may have to exemption from college fees or student support charges, and you should still complete a grant application form.

recession/banks/govt wanting to shaft the small people and keep their big paychecks, whichever you wish to blame it on!! tis the same as them doing away with automatic entitlement to the non-adjacent rate of maintenance grant if you are a mature student from this year. scabby so and sos nead more money now that they don't have the chauffered (sp!?) cars!
