Hey, the frame fitting where the screws goes to attach water bottles has sheared on my bike. It was so bad that the whole fitting came out when removing the screw. Is it easy to find and replace these fittings?

Its a specialized allez so Aluminium.

Ive also got the same problem on my sintesi. My LBS told me the only solution was to get the alloy version of "no more nails" and seal the cage into place. This doesnt sound very attractive to me incase the cage breaks in a crash or something. It will be stuck there forever.

The option of sending the frame back to the manufacturer is as expensive as getting a new one.

    Anyone have an suggestions?

I think if I had something like what is in figure 1 on this page I could fix it

No idea where to get it though, I have one water bottle fitted, I need another for long cycles :(

I was looking into similar things to this, as I have had some of the mounts work loose on the downtube on my own bike, and I was looking into tightening them/getting them tightened. Anyway, as far as I recall, the bolt size is supposed to be M6, and it's what's called a rivnut. I'd be 80-90% sure that something like these are what you seek, though 25 odd of them is probably excessive for your purposes!

EDIT: I wish I'd been able to find that page when I was looking, I ended up cobbling together a "tool" from a nut, bolt and a washer!

Yes that looks exactly like the part that broke off on me when removing the screw. Maybe if I check the bike shops they might be kind to me.

A good bike shop should be able to rethread it. basically they strip out the old one by drilling it and put a new thread insert in.

I tried my local bike shop in Nenagh and they didn't even know what a m6 rivnut was. Can anyone recommend a shop around North Tipp or Limerick that might be able to help me?

You best bet would be an engineering shop rather than a bike shop. There is probably enough material to do this, but it wouldn't be a normal procedure for the majority of bike shops.
You should bring the original bold or similar - M5??

Yes I could bring the original broken rivnet. I would not know where to look for engineering shops though

I had this happen to me last year on my carbon frame!!
Thought all was lost but took bike to Richies in Swords Co Dublin & they sent the bike off to be fixed.
Not sure how ./ didnt want to know as I was sh****ing myself thinking I was looking at new frame.
Job done days before W200 so made use of the 2 water bottles!!!!:)

How much did it cost? I didn't think you would have to get the bike sent away to have it fixed. I really hope I can find somewhere closer than Dublin.

Have a look at these, I would add a bit of silicone to prevent movement.

I had a similar problem recently while trying to fit a rear rack to my Specialized Allez, the treads sheared off and fell into the seat stay, leaving the rest of the rivnut in place. Does anyone know of any shop in Cork that could replace this rivnut for me?
