CS&IT vs Undenominated Science

I was wondering what the differences are, if any, between the Computer Science and Information Technology course (GY350) and the final year subject, Computer Science, after three years of Undenominated Science (CY301). Maybe someone who has completed one of these courses can tell me the possible differences.

Computer Science is just a module in the Undenom Science degree. CS&IT is a fully-fledged IT degree. What field would you like to work in ultimately?

And as I offer to everyone, PM me for any details you want about CS&IT :)

Thanks for the quick response :D. I'm not fully sure where I'd like to work eventually yet. I'm interested in games development, mobile development and hardware, so I'd assume that's pretty broad. I know that the CS&IT degree has a work placement, do you know if the Undenominated course has one?

No worries. In that case, CS&IT would be right up your street. It would give you a great basis in computer science, which would let you move on to any area of expertise.

Definitely not. It's just a module (usually a fancy word for subject - although it may be split into multiple subjects). I'm going on work placement next year so I can't give you much info on that.

Well that's great then! I'll leave it as my 1st choice, and keep Undenominated as my 2nd. Would I be at much of a disadvantage doing OL maths? I did HL up till the mocks this year, but just decided that OL would be a better choice points-wise. I don't know how involved the maths gets in CS&IT.

If you're interested in hardware, there's a lot more practical hardware stuff in Electronic and Computer Engineering than in IT. There are courses in Android development, ARM processors as well as Arduino chips and things like that. They do game development too.

Seems to me like ECE ticks all your boxes, so would definitely be worth a look..

I'd have to agree with thecosmicfrog though, unless you're really into the Science side of things, steer clear from the undenominated science route.

I did OL maths through all of secondary school. Maths in IT isn't great, but it's definitely do-able. I've passed all my maths exams so far, as have most people. And most of the people in our year did OL maths for the Leaving Cert.

im having the same problem, i want to do cs and it but dont have enough points, is general a decent alternative as i have no prior knowledge of computers? i could go to a different college but have spent time in a horrible one (d.i.t) because i only looked at the course and not the college, so im taking the actual college into consideration (galway a strong first choice)
