Eastern Europe adventure

    Hi folks,

Planning to head to Europe in the month of September with a ladyfriend for a period of 30 days approx. Considered the Interrailing pass but decided this is probably not the best option so decided to go on our own bat. Basically want to fly out from Shannon/Dublin to a country in the Eastern part of Europe, travel around a few of these countries and finish up in Italy (somewhere like Venice) and fly home from there. Italy is the only "expensive" country we intend visiting, and we intend visiting 5 or 6 in total.

Just wondering has anyone done a (cheap) trip around Eastern Europe and is interested in sharing their experience with me? I basically want to know three things:

    a) What are the nicest countries/cities to visit in eastern europe?
    b) Is it possible to explore the nicest countries/cities by train or are flights necessary?
and c) What should my budget be?

    Any advice greatly appreciated,

    Simon
