Can you still buy old AutoCAD packages?

When last I used CAD, 2000 was the shiny new product on the self. Is it possible to buy these old programmes still (or AutoCAD 14)?

I need to access drawings to take measurements and add in the odd line etc. Nothing extensive at all.

will a dwg viewer suffice for you?

Dunno, can I draw lines/boxes etc.?

    (sort of MSpaint meets ACAD)

there is a low cost autocad alternative called "progecad" which, AFAIK, can open dwg files.

    have a google

Free one called Draftsight, might be plenty for you, and works with dwg files.
Available for windows, Mac and linux.

DWGtrueconvert should sort you out if you are currently running any cad package.

I use it all the time. It means I can receive any version of cad without hassle.

I doubt it possble to buy them from autodesk. Makes no sense that they would.
but you should be able to pick up something somewhere.

The problem with having R14 or 2000 is that it won't open current file version,s so you need a convertor like mentioned above

    Hi all

given the knowdege of autocad here - how easy would it be for

    a) architect to export basic building shape layer into a separate dwg file
    b) me to use draftsite (or please recommend any other free autocad look alike) to create a layer for lighting switches, a layer for sockets, a layer for cat 5 ..... etc
    c) for him to load back in these layers into the "master dwg" file

    1. How do symbols/icons get moved across e.g. if I create a "cat 5 socket" icon and then use this across my drawing set is this a separate operation to the layer load or will it go back in because its embedded in the layer

    2. has any one come across issues importing exporting draftsite stuff into autocad

I will then hapilly share - for the IT savy person who wants to add to the plans - but wants the architect to keep the difficult bits associated with the structure under his control this could be a good approch

.dxf can be used by all CAD system AFAIK.

If you are going to load up plans like this ask your architect to check your layouts - (and pay him to )
