Hi, my car has developed a sqelching sort of sound coming from the engine.
Is this the water pump failing or what is it.

Driving, or stopped? it's common enough for the auxiliary belt to make a high pitched sound when it's worn and slipping. How bad is it? are the engine temps ok, and are there any warning lights on the dash?

Both, can hear it more during heavy acceleration.
Took it to the garage and they think it sounds like the timing belt tentioner pully. This makes sence as its overdue a timing belt change.
Have it booked in for saterday morning now, just hope to god it is the pully and nothing else, i dont have the money for anyother work.

Well the tensioner pully going as the same disasterous effect as the timming belt snapping. Get him to do the auxiliery belt and pulley while hes changing it. Is the mechanic doing the water pump, should be, but not all do.

Yea hes change the whole kit, belt, pullt and idiler.
The water pump ant run of the auxiliery belt, only the alternater and power streering pump.

Would have changed it myself but im in collage studing for exams so i dont have time and dont have my tools with me.
The timing belt running the water pump on the startlet i think, thats why i hope its the tensioner pull and not the water pump thats making the sound, otherwise im going to have to take the belt off again to get to the water pump.

if the timing belt runs the water pump you're much better off changing it now aswell, if ya don't ya need to change the belt and tensioner again, the tension on the new belt might break the water pump now aswell

I did a 307 belt recently with a squelching noise. Turned out to be the water pump, noise was in it when cold but disappeared when the engine warmed up. I recommend changing pulleys and water pump especially on engines with a high belt change interval ( the 307 has 120k miles interval)

The cost of the extra parts is worth it considering the damage that could occur.

The sound was coming from the tensioner pully not the water pump, all is good now.
If it was the water pump i wouldnt have had the money to getit fixed, my last bit of cash went into changing the timing belt.

Even if it was the water pump guil, and i had to send it back to get it fix, I would not need to change the belt and pully agian.
You are ony recomended to change the belt and pully before they have done 60000 miles if you have to take them out anyway. But not if you have just put new ones in that same week.

no your wrong a timing belt isnt supposed to be used again once the tension is taken off it
