Just bought a saorview box today and I have an older TV. And it doesn't seem to find any channels. Just says "No channels found. Please check your attenna connection"

Connected via HDMI btw and followed all the instructions to a tee. And my TV was an aldi TV i got back in 07 I think. I just found out it has only an MPEG2 reciever. So am I fecked?

If you have a saorview Box, it dosen't matter if you TV is only MPEG2.
thats why you need the BOX it will do all of the MPEG4/MHEG5 stuff for you.

No channels means you have no digital reception. Do you know what Transmitter you receive analouge TV from? You may need to adjust your Aerial or even replace it.
do you have good reception of TV3 in analouge at the moment?

Post your location in Cork roughly, maybe some one more local to you can tell you which way to point your aerial.

I live in the Cloughduv area. I don't have good TV3 reception that's why I wanted the box in the first place !

RTENL coverage checker recommends Collins Barracks for Cloughduv and shows other nearby transmitters.

You can zoom in to your precise location for more exact info and compare this to where your aerial is pointing, assuming it's not just a non-directional indoor type.

can I ask name of the saorview box? And if you dont have good TV3 via aerial then you will need a better aerial for DTT.

. . . or look up at it; is it indoor or outdoor, what direction does it point?

Hi, I am connected to Sky at the minute but I want to get FTA channels and Saorview and get rid of them. I have tuned in some FTA channels into the 'Other Channels' option on my skybox. If I disconnect from Sky will these channels still be there for viewing? Also, can I connect to Saorview with what I have - (a sony bravia 1080 HD and the skybox) and if so how do I do it? Sorry if this sounds stupid but I have no knowledge whatsoever of tuning in channels and FTA and have just followed info that I found on Boards to get the FTA channels sorted. Thanks in advance

To receive Saorview you will need a UHF aerial pointed at your local transmitter. Check out saorview.ie to see where your best transmitter is.

Your Sky box will give you channels but to check which just remove the card, turn the box off at the switch and wait a minute or so and turn it back on. Check what you get. The best result would be got wirh a Freesat box which will give you all the UK TV for free, with recording if you buy the right box. [Top price is £250 for the best]. The UHF aerial can be mounted near your sat dish and the existing down cable shared with it using two [one at each end] splitter/combiner. [Check out tvtrade.ie for whatever you need]

If you TV is compatible, then you are set, otherwise you will need a Saorview STB. Post the model number or check the stickies.
