Does anyone has any feedback or experience of the this FAS course? I'm an accountant by trade but have an interest in software development for developing my own tax calculators etc. Would this course be worthwhile for improving my limited knowledge of Software Development. On completion of the course, a Level 2 City and Guilds diploma is awarded.

Any feedback or info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Don't know anything about that course but be careful about what advice FAS give you.

They wasted 6 months of my uncles life sending him on a Sun Certified java Programmer course when he had never seen a line of code in his life.

Even if he learns the exam questions off my heart and somehow passes the exam he doesnt understand any of it and wont get a job by having that cert alone.

It's an introductory course aimed at beginners.

I did it about 10 years ago. If you can get a good work placement ( you have to organize it yourself) , its worthwhile. The course are normally contracted out so you can get an good/ok standard of teaching.

Very basic course with a very low level of certfication. It is a first step on the road to becoming a software developer, but you will need a lot more than this to learn what you want to do. I am sure that you will find very reasonably priced software to do the work you describe, it will take you a long time to create your own. It would be like reinventing the wheel.

In the current economic climate you would need a lot more than this to gain employment in software development.

Thanks for the reply and I know what you mean about buying the software but for the long term I would like to gain some understanding of coding and developement.

Is there any other courses you would recommend?

I don't intend dissing the FAS course. I am just saying that learning to program takes a long time. So it may well be a good starting point.
