Minor accident disputed

In November last year another vehicle collided with mine and broke the glass in my mirror, approx €45 to replace. The other vehicle overtook me on a narrow road and collided with my door mirror. His vehicle was not damaged. There was no witness and i didnt call the guards as it was a minor incident. He admitted it was his fault at the time and i asked him for cash to settle it on the spot. He said to claim for it through his insurance and i took his details. It took until two weeks ago for his insurance company to finally ask for my version of the incident and today i got a letter saying they will not compensate me as they have a different account from their insured. The other driver lied and claims i hit him as he was turning right.

Im frustrated at all this. I cant believe he would lie over a €45 charge. Without a witness is there nothing i can do? Its about the principle rather than the money now, its not fair i should be out of pocket for somebody elses dangerous driving. The fact it took from November until today to resolve is also disgraceful. Is this the end of the road or is there anything i can do?

Yes, forget about it. I jest not. Life is too short. People tell lies and nobody died. The person in question is clearly a dishonest liar and may he or she be subject to the faeces of ten million pigeons (or worse) as they go about their business.

It is frustrating. Accidents require vigilant thought and most of the time people are either in shock, or in a hurry. Carry a disposable camera in your car and take pictures in future. The Gardai should also be called where possible.

I know the above may sound flippant but doing anything else with this will cause you even more cost and ire.

    Forget it.

    Thanks Tom

I know its all over but i feel like a victim even though i did nothing wrong. Hopefully some bad karma will come his way.

Im going to get one of those dash cams i heard about over on motors forum. Cost less than €50 and give great peace of mind.

A dash cam is no good if your dash is on the road! By a 2 Euro disposable (or however much they cost).

You are a victim. No doubt. Move on ..... ;)
