To organise the Queen's visit for the same week as the UEFA Cup Final?

I mean God knows at the moment we need our country to be seen in the best light possible but we have thousands of Portugese people coming over here today and most of the tourist attractions (Guinness, Croke Park, O'Connell St) are closed to the public. They are hardly gonna go home and be glowing in their praise of Ireland especially if they also witnessed a lot of what went on yesterday in town. Would it not have made more sense to move the Queen's visit (The UEFA Cup Final was scheduled first) to another time and try get as much positive coverage of our country as is possible?

And yes, before you say it, I know the Portugese are as broke as us!

Imagine the craic if Rangers had qualified for the final as well, or maybe the scheduling of the visit was finalised after that.

But they are in the pub... They are football supporters after all.

Or maybe going to protest at the Queen when they see all the football jerseys they might think its the way to the stadium..

It's an elaborate conspiracy by our and the Portuguese goverments to have a huge group of people from both countries ask her for a huge personal loan, as she'd be too embarrassed to say no because of all the goodwill about.

They are Portugese football supporters, I doubt their culture is to drink as much as possible before the game! There are plenty of them around now, I'm sure they would have loved to see some of the sighrs Dublin has to offer

Well if they follow the large stadium security today they'll end up in Croke Park :pac:

It's the Europa League Final these days, and by all accounts it's not even going to be a big draw. Both finalist clubs have handed back a percentage of their ticket allocation and local punters don't seem to be that interested in the event either.

Of course it might have been different had local Irish clubs like Liverpool or ManCity qualified but in this country we don't really care too much for Jorge Foreigners brand of footy.

Their boring, nondescript "lets play for penos" style of football might have worked in Europe once.....it won't work again!
