Thick, shiny, silky, straight hair gone thin, dry, frizzy

    Hi all,

I'm 24. I used to have thick, shiny, silky straight hair until I got it thinned once at the hairdressers about 2.5 years ago. It's thin, dry, wavy, frizzy and has lot of fly-aways and split-ends now. :( Scared to go the hairdressers if it's going to cause further damage. I don't seem to have changed my diet or the products I use. I shampoo my hair twice a week. I used to wash (just water, shampoo twice a week) it everyday when I had thick hair and it did my hair no damage. I don't blow dry or straighten it. Isn't hair supposed to just grow back? Wondering why it had a lot of changes to it? Also, any tips on getting it back to how it used to be?

    Thanks

You could try taking cod liver oil, my boyfriend has to take it every day but his hair and nails have benifited from him taking it.

Also I like to use a conditioning hair yogurt or mask once a week and I really think it makes a difference.

There are so many things that will change the condition of your hair, diet, health, stress. If you use a colour your hair will be much different to "virgin"hair, if you have a lot of greys, even if you've moved house and the water is harder or softer than before.

If you have frizz and split ends the only thing you can do is have it trimmed, and keep having it trimmed regularly, split ends travel up the hair shaft. Stop tying your hair back if you can, that can cause more damage. Use a decent hair masque or hot oil treatment once a week. You could try changing your shampoo and conditioner, its possible you have product build up in the hair so using a clarifying shampoo might help.

I've heard very good things about Moroccan Oil, it's a little expensive though but apparantly you only use a little bit at a time so a bottle lasts for ages http://www.moroccanoil.com/

I agree about taking the cod liver oil, it definitely does help hair, nails and skin.

You could try a leave-in conditioner as well, this might help with overall condition of your hair and definitely get regular trims as this will help the split ends.

    Thanks guys.

Now that I think about it, it could be due to the fact that I've changed houses. Can't believe hard water suited my hair better.

I do take cod liver oil capsules everyday. I'll try out the hair mask and the oil stuff. The Moroccan oil stuff is so darn expensive

the moroccan oil is expensive, i think mine was 37, but by god does that bottle last for ages. And I use it every day, probably too much of it. Months and months. You'd spend far more on your shampoos
