Linked my hotmail account up with Mail on Monday and it’s been slow to pull in all my emails. Its seemed to have stopped about half way through now and Is not moving. I’ll probably cancel it later and try it again, has this ever happened you?

I'd rather not change email address if I can avoid it.

In my experience POP3 servers are always a bit problematic about letting you download all your emails. Until it supports IMAP, Hotmail is kinda crap anyway. I have it set up with Mail but it is constantly going offline.

Just to update on this, I deleted and re-tried mail but I just wouldn't pull in all emails and didn't seem to sync up right so I gave up on it.

Last night I ran outlook 2011, that came with office, and it has worked seamlessly with my hotmail. Pulled in all emails fine and Is syncing up perfectly so far, despite being pop3.

On comparison then outlook is much better suited for hotmail. The UI on both is quiet similar but outlook being typically a bit more cluttered, whereas mail is a lot more simplistic.

The features on both are almost exactly the same so there is not new learning here.

Mail works great with GMail but I've never had a good experience with Hotmail on any POP client.

If you really want to use Mail, you can just forward your Hotmail account to a Gmail account (very easy to setup). Then configure Mail for your Gmail account, mails from both Gmail and Hotmail will be received. You should find this works a treat. You can then set up Mail to use your Hotmail address by default for sending mails.

A bit messy I know, but if you are like me you will hate using any Microsoft software on OSX :D
