Beware of dodgy Electrical liquidation stock sales

Hi all, just a few lines to fore warn ye of dodgy liquidation stock sales. I am writing this piece on behalf of my cousin and his girlfriend who were caught out at one of these in Tralee last Sunday afternoon.

My cousins girlfriend got a flyer through her door advertising the sale in the Carlton Hotel last Sunday. Her son was looking for a laptop so they went along to the sale. I was staying at their house the night before and they asked me if I wanted to come along to the sale as I was leaving. I declined as I'd something to do at home. I regretted it after as it appears they were conned at it following a phone call from my cousin later on that evening. I'd actually seen a piece on TV about one of these types of sales not too terribly long back and would have known the name of the game straight away it I'd went along.

Seemingly people are suckered in with what would appear to be bargains and a number are selected to further partake in the sale. As I recall my cousins girlfriends son and daughter ended up buying a laptop and i phone, neither of which are branded. If I recall correctly one doesn't work at all and the other is about as much use as a sack of wet spuds. They were out about €400 quid as a result of this. All told the sellers made off with about €3,000 for what would appear to be a load of junk. At the end people were demanding their money back but the sellers made a very quick exit and would not entertain peoples plea's

The did mention that they were to have another one of these sales in Farranfore, Co. Kerry in a few weeks time but that could be more deceipt for that matter. The following day a spokesperson for the Carlton Hotel made an address on Radio Kerry disassociating the hotel. He commented that if hotel management knew more about the type of sale in advance they would not have allowed it to go ahead. Apparently the guards had being contacted but it would seem the guards have very little power to deal with this sort of thing.

These are just a few lines to fore warn unsuspecting members of the public really. I'm sure many of you are aware of these type of dodgy sales but no doubt other aren't.

Moderators: The name of the family for which the sales guy worked for was mentioned at the sale by him. Do I have permission to mention this surname?

This is nothing new. These things happen every week, and have been doing so for decades. There's also dozens of threads about them. Buyer beware, as always.

It's a civil matter, not a criminal one. You can see what you're buying, and you're not forced to pay up. People do it because they let their desires overrule their sense. Greed is a powerful motivator, and nothing gets people to part with cash like the idea of getting something for far less than it should cost. Unfortunately, and what people need to learn, is that this simply doesn't exist.

iPhones, quality laptops, etc do not get liquidated in this manner. Why not? Because they are worth more than that, and any liquidator will have no problem getting fair market value for them. You will not find them in a hotel conference room on a Sunday afternoon, for half nothing.

    No, do not do that.

not going to name names, but I expect this was a certain well know Carlow based operator (those who know these liquidation sales will know who I mean)
