Probation?

    Hi

Yesterday my principal came up to me at lunch time and he told me that I had to make an appointment to see the DP because I have to undergo 'probation'. Apparently I'm on his list of people who have to undergo this probation.

I didn't want to behave like I didn't know what he was talking about so I just said "No problem" but I'm just wondering what this is all about?

I'm PRPT on my first year in the school. Is this just to check up on me after my first year? Does this mean they are planning on keeping me for a second year?

This is good as it means they want to keep you for next year.

When I had to do it the Principal came into my class for 5 minutes and left again. They just have to observe you and say that they are happy with you. A lot of principals don't even go to the class, they just sign off on it.

    Peanut Head,
As far as I remember my probation, its just a formality that the Department want. Your very first year of teaching after qualifying is a probation year - like a learner driver license. It goes on your record in the Department that you were supervised for a year and deemed satisfactory.

It does not mean anything about being kept on. I served my probation year on a TWT contract ( career break) - the teacher returned , I was never going to be kept on. Its just a form that is sent to the Department certify that you have served your probation year.
