They buy the cars from dealers in UK, you give them a deposit and they import it for you. A workmates bought a Ceed SW a few months back. All went well. I'm moving this to another thread though:)

Frankly, you'd have to elaborate on that. It's not the most insightful critique and for somebody to form their own opinion you're not giving much feedback to go on. ;)

I'm not doubting your story Susan but it's quite obvious you signed up for this rant and if there's an on-going case you may wish to reconsider.

Ain't this the same dude who defaulted on his loans and wrote a book about it?

And the same fella who parades around the place in a UK reg Jaguar for the last year at least and still hasn't been caught. I would have thought that a man in his position would be making every attempt to pay back the bank instead if trying to keep up appearances.

.... After seeing him interviewed I gathered that paying back the bank is fairly low on his list of priorities. No doubt he expects customers to pay him as per the agreed t&cs though.
Sean Quinn type gnome on a smaller scale. And before the moron argument about employment creation is offered these lads are driven only by motivation to make cash, at least Sean q built his business from the ground up, its just a shame the tax payer is footing the bill now.

this is very sad to hear - I know the family and know no one would have had a bad thing to say about them during the time Brian Snr was at the helm. George and Jnr took the well respected company their father built from the ground up and destroyed it through sheer greed ( and now George is trying to make a living now of telling folk how he did it ).

Agreed, Brian Snr was a gentleman and I've never heard a bad thing said about him. Pity the greed caught hold if the son.

Yes Brian snr built it from scratch and well regarded.

Thats about as much positive I can say.
I was in there recently to buy some genuine Kia Sorento service parts, tried to sell me aftermarket ones, and not the best quality either. Made me wonder what if you bought your Kia in there for a service.

OP, are you thinking of buying a car there?

I'm fairly sure they're not main dealer for Kia anymore.

prob not but ive nothing to lose at this stage, found the thread, just dont want anyone else to be scammed like i was...

Had the displeasure of dealing with this lot over the past few days. Having narrowed down the car I was looking for to two models, I spotted something of interest on their website.
Initially made contact looking for an approximate valuation on my trade in, I was sent a somewhat rude reply asking was I a 'serious buyer'. After confirming that I was, I was asked how much had I to spend! Then followed by a request for a €100 deposit before they would quote!
Are they serious? Give them money before they even put a value on my trade? Insane, and really arrogant in their response!
Thankfully, I found another car to my liking in Dublin and hope to pick it up saturday! Glad I didn't hand over cash to such a shower, especially after reading the posts above
Buyer beware and avoid like the plague!

Look up the Clonmel thread here. They got done for €72,000 for treating an employee badly. They have no dealership now. Ah, well, they might have to eat Shepherds Pie!

    That takes the piss altogether.

Dealt with them back in May. Got a fairly arrogant sales guy. I asked a simple question about best cash price (no trade in) and was given the whole "are you a serious buyer etc". He didnt knock much off and I told him the same car was in a main dealer in Dublin for the same money. Bought in the main dealer instead.

Like others who have posted on this site, I too agree that the Mordaunt Group have no skills in customer care.
After highlighting an issue I have with a car I purchased from them, I have phoned, sent 3 emails, and still they refuse to reply. It seems as if once they have sold a car, then thats it as far as they are concerned. A very poor concept to adopt Im afraid, Look after the customer and you will have a customer for life. Treat them like **** and you will be dropped just as quick.

Lots of negative posts here on these guys, any positives? Do they do what they say they will do and find good value for the buyer?
The concept is fairly straight forward........

Any more input guys? Tentatively looking at a car with them but not liking all the negativity.

Bought an imported car off them 2 weeks ago. Car was 2k-3k less than from any other dealership in Ireland.

Found them very professional and very thorough. Car came with all the paperwork, warranties, service history etc and was in perfect condition.

Sometimes you only hear the bad stories here which isn't reflective of their overall reputation.

Thinking about going down the sourcing road here myself. Am I right in thinking that these guys will not just be looking at the like of autotrader for the car I want but rather go through some connections they have with other dealerships over in the UK?

What did they look for up front before they went sourcing for you petefalk78? Deposit? Can you get this back? What kind of information did they feedback to you in what they had found? Did they come back with a few options together or one at a time?
Apologies for questions and hijacking old thread!
    Thanks

Wouldnt be keen on giving deposit to place with bad business record. It seems the father brian was a gent when in business but having read georges book - didnt buy it ! - i would steer clear - he really has no likeability what so ever

Farrells are suzuki dealers and in business years so should be good though as they have huge stk thought might not be keen to buy to order

As you mentioned yes they have connections in England.
I placed a deposit of around 700euro. I can't remember the exact details of the deposit but loosely worked like this.
If you place a deposit and they go off looking for cars for you and you pull out before delivery then you will lose 250euro of deposit. The service, register, valet the car on delivery - mine got 4 brand new Good Year tyres (I could see it on the service record).

Car is still going perfect, as with any car dealership you can be unlucky with any 2nd hand car. I've no links to Mordaunt Group but just telling you my personal experience which was very very positive.

Who gives a fook about "likeability" as long as you get what you pay for?

there are other dealers in the area that offer similar cars (uk imported diesel saloons) that don't have this deposit system that MG have - Niall McCarthy (http://www.niallmccarthycarsales.ie/) in Irishtown is one and a couple of friends of mine have dealt with him recently and have had no issues at all with the guy or the car. There is a fella at The Rink too (http://www.premierautosclonmel.com/) with a big selection but i am not at all familiar with the business.

I doubt that you are after anything that these guys couldn't get for you if they didn't have it in stock.

(i have no affiliation with any of the afore mentioned car dealerships)

its at the end (or start) of Queen street - there was a filling station there for years back in the day - a few cars sales places since.

Not far from the Oakville shopping centre

Stay away from these "businessman". I was ripped of by them on the deposit. They ask for deposit to "show that you are serious buyer" and then start to "search" for your car. The search goes forever and the cars offered are not the ones you were asking for. On the end after a month wasted I asked for money back because I found the car myself. When called them was told to get full refund. Later the money arrived 90€ short. Was told that according to their T&C's that is the fee for doing the search. Interesting enough, the T&C's were e-mailed a day after the deposit was taken...

Anyway... We do business as well, but we don't charge our customers for doing research and outsourcing of the products they want. We earn money from sales of the products to customers which we outsourced for them. If we can't find it - our bad for our time invested.

No my personal advise to readers of this discussion would be - stay clear of that company if you can. And "best of luck" to Mordaunt Group in business. With this business practice of theirs, I am sure, they will need a lot of luck to stay afloat.
