Anybody have any experience regarding acquiring a "certificate de coutume"? I am supposed to be getting married in Poland in August, venue registrar etc booked.

The problem I have is after working 50-60hr weeks for the past few months I have not had the chance to look into everything required and this was neglected.

One website says I can go up to the dept of foreign affairs with my partner and some identifying documents and they will issue the document upon payment of a fee.

However their site says I need to fill in several forms, have the forms officially signed by a notary and send them to the dept at least 4 months before the wedding:eek:, impossible without the use of a time machine.

    So am I F##ked?

Best bet is to call the Department of Foreign Affairs, they will be best able to help you.

I can tell you about my experiences though. I had to get one for my wedding in here in Scotland this year, but was dealing with the consulate in Edinburgh. I applied in early April for the wedding in late June. Was told it would take a maximum of three weeks, but got it back in less time than that. I got my MP2A signed by a notary because I posted in my application, it has to be notarised but if they have someone in the consulate/dfa who can do it, it should be fine.

I got mine done recently and its not that complicated a process. Fill teh forms in off the depts website get birth cert etc. Send into dept and they can do all teh notary stuff in there for a bit extra. Think for the stamps on the form and birth cert its about €40-60. Just check with the local registrar when the latest date you can register is. The dept said they issue the official form two months before your wedding date but if you ask they will rush it through but I would keep on their back.

Thanks for the advice guy's, I'll get back on to them to see if they can do the notarising for a fee. It would certainly save a bit of hassle.

Now just to wait for my passport to come back from the ever slow passport express gggrrr!

My partner got his done in less than 2 weeks. They say 4 months, but if you explain your situation, they can do it for you without any problem!! Go to the foreing affairs st sthephens green and good luck!!
