pocket camcorder recommendations please

I'm thinking of updating my old camcorder(6yrs!) with one of the new ones that fit into a pocket. my main complaint with my old one is that I never took it anywhere because it wouldn't fit in my bag. Thing is are the new ones worth getting? Not doing anything fancy with it, just shooting footage of family, school plays…
