    Hey,

I need to buy someone a 21st present and was thinking of getting her a 50 euro voucher for a makeup application (redeemable against products) in BT's.

I personally love Laura Mercier but is that 'in' for 21 year olds? :D

There is also MAC, Smashbox, Benefit, Nars - any suggestions?

    Thanks :)

I'd say mac, I'd love mac and benefit but I'd prolly prefer a €50 euro mac voucher! And I'm 20 so close enough in age :P Hope that helps.

I'm 22 and I'd definitely say MAC or Benefit aswell. I like the Laura Mercier stuff but I'd prefer a MAC or Benefit makeover plus MAC makeup is really popular with all my friends!

    Thanks guys :)

The only thing I'm concerned about with Mac is that it's so bloody hard to get an appointment!

How do you rate Bobbi Brown?

One of my friends uses Bobbi Brown too and my sister used to use it. They both find it brilliant. Their foundations are supposed to be great. MAC is my favourite because I love lipsticks and eye shadow but I'm sure Bobbi Brown's stuff is really good too!

i go with the benefit such lovely blushers , could you not just get a gift card for BTs and let her pick herself .

Laura Mercier or I got my best friend Giorgio Armani for her 21st last year and they did us both and it was absolutely incredible! I was a convert!

My friend got her makeup done with benefit a while ago, looked lovely inside under the lights...she went outside and her foundation looked like someone had covered her in orange paint:D luckily she saw the funny side:D....so yeah personally would stay away from benefit for makeup application, but on the plus side they do have some lovely products (apart from the foundation!)

Mac. Benefit have far less training in make up application.

I think getting the BT Voucher is a good idea. If you book, you'll have to pick the date and time, she might want to save it for when she's going on a night out or has a special occasion.

As a 21 year old, I'd like Mac or Benefit (just for the products, not a fan of their application!). While Laura Mercier is excellent, you wouldn't get much for €50 when you redeem. Mac also do lashes, always a hit!

If you know a date she'd like, give Mac a try! I got an application for a Saturday evening at two weeks notice, you might get lucky.

I've seen three girls have their make-up done at make-up and they all looked awful! They had sharpie brows and orange faces.
I'd go for mac myself :)

If it was me it would be bobbi brown/mac/chanel.

Personally I would love an application with Bobbi Brown.

It's the only place I have ever gotten a foundation that actually is the right colour for my skin.

The girl who matched my foundation to my skin was so lovely and helpful and didn't force anything on me. She also asked other staff members at the BB counter to look at the foundation she had and they both agreed it was the right colour.

    I would 100% recommend them

I took one look at the girls on the MAC counter and the amount of make up they (looked like they) had on was enough to put me off. It looked like it was shoveled on.

Bobbi Brown or Smashbox for me. I'd avoid Mac, love their products but even for the 'natural look' their application is far too heavy handed for my liking. I ended up with full on stripes across my face that they called light contouring.
Washed it all off when I got home and did it myself!

I'm so iffy about MAC; I'm as pale as a ghost, and usually try nab a chat with one of the similarly pale girls when buying makeup there..they stick it and a swear this and that, but i se myself in the mirror and tell them I'm orange, when I want YOUR shade of make-up!! I have since moved to Bobbi Brown which I find deadly.

As a 21 year old tho, Benefit for it's loveliness, MAC cos it's trendy and Bobbi Brown cos it's good stuff..I don't think she'd turn her nose up at any of those :)

I think you need to ask, what products would she be most likely to use? If it's MAC or Benefit, send her there. Bobbi Brown or Laura Mercier would be good but I know if I got a present of a make-up application for MAC at 21 I'd be like OMFG, deadly!

MAC in BTs is gonna be hit and miss with the application though.

Pity Stila is gone. I loved their stuff. So pretty!!! :(

I agree about Mac, great products, but the girls who work there are never that friendly I find, and look like they have mascara shovelled on!!! My friend is so pretty and has gorgeous alabaster skin, I'd be afraid that they'd destroy her!

I think I'll go with Bobbi Brown - it's a happy medium. Laura Mercier is quite expensive alright so hopefully Bobbi Brown would be a good compromise! You can't go wrong with them :)

    Really appreciate your feedback, thanks!!!!

my gf has had her make up done by dior a few times in dundrum and loved it. have to say i thought she looked pretty good too...but *ahem* you know she always looks fantastic :D she said the girl worked in bt as well so just adding dior might be a good bet either? tbh though my gf has gone to all the make up counters there i would say! She told me bobbi brown only do a natural look and mac was extremely unfriendly. She thinks the dundrum mac is nicer. She's just over the 21 age though ;)

Definitely wouldn't go with benefit, love their products but the girls there were really hostile when I said I didn't like the eye makeup they'd put on me (I had speficially said before they started that I only wanted natural eyes). Go with Bobbi Brown, gorgeous make up and the girls are so friendly. They usually throw in some free samples as well!!

I don't shop with MAC in BTs on principle. I went in their before and asked for a foundation match as mine didn't really suit me. The girl just picked up a random bottle and shoved it at me and said it would suit me and walked off.

Anytime I've asked for help in there I am almost always brushed off... Maybe it because I'd don't look like a typical BT customer, but it just meant I didn't get to use my mam's platinum credit card to make a purchase ;) Their loss!

Benefit have some nice bits and pieces, but I'd only really buy blushers and certain powders from them, definitely not foundations. They're also quite pushy with some of their products.

Honestly i have never had a good experience at make up counters esp Mac and Nars i have a cert in Make up and those girls never seem to have a clue. They always matched me to the wrong shade of foundation which is why i do it myself now and have done for the past few years... The Nars girl i delt with was not only clueless but unsanitary . and i walked out of Brown Thomas looking like a clown. Never again. Thought i would enjoy someone else doing my make up for a change , how wrong i was !

Those MAC girls always make me feel 2 inches tall!! I love my make up and if I'm gonna be spending a bomb I'd like you to not treat me like a hillbilly please?

Yes, I know my skin isn't blemish free and my liquid eyeliner isn't perfectly straight but FU  At least I'm nice to my customers!!!!

i do love the bobbi brown, i avoid benefit though, only for the reason they try and force stuff on you, last time i was in, 3 times she asked me do i need any help, three times i told her im just looking, i found it quite rude actually as if i needed her help id ask, i do have a mouth of my own.
bobi brown for foundation and eye shadows, mac for eye shadows, benefit for eyr shadows and cream.
but i would have loved a voucher for bt for my 21st, instead of those horrid shower gel sets they give instead :(
