New Job and P45

I just got a new job in a hotel and they asked if I had my p45 and I said no but I work in Aviva stadium as a casual worker so does that mean they want me to quit that job. I basically only work once every 3 weeks or more and will never interfere with my new job. I use to have a job a year ago and never got a p45 but I already sorted that out with the tax office and they just have me down now for Aviva Stadium

Im confused as to what she wants :/

    OK a couple of things.

Your P45 from last year is no longer valid as we are in a new tax year, so forget about everything you did last year. The only importance is January 2011 onwards.

If you pay tax in your casual Aviva stadium job, it means your tax credits will be split with your new job. This is messy and probably does not work in your favour as it is such a sporadic position.

The best thing to do is to ring the revenue office (1890 333 425), explain your situation, and they will tell you exactly what you need to do. See if they can give you your tax credits over the phone; you can then give them to the payroll people in the hotel.

Do not wait for the hotel to sort this out (they won't) because you will just end up paying emergency tax.

Spot on re ringing the tax office.

Have your most recent payslip from the Aviva job in your hand when you call. Also have the employer's tax-registration number - get this from the hotel.

They most likely won't give you your tax-credits over the phone, but they will post you, and the hotel, a certificate.

The hotel aren't asking you to quit the other job, they just need some paperwork. If necessary, get a P46 from Revenue's website, and give that to the hotel.

It's totally normal for people to split their tax credits between jobs: Revenue will ask you to guess at the proportion of your income that will come from each job over the course of the year, and allocate your credits and cut-off-point accordingly. This should see you pay about the right tax in each place.
