Heard a couple of tracks of it, sounds like it's going to be great alright. Does anyone know if their gig in Cork is sold out or not? And who's supporting?

It's not sold out. Not sure on Cork support but Villagers and the low anthem are supporting in Belfast.

As for the album, I think it's better than their first. Listened to it daily since it leaked and there's still times it's providing something 'new'. Love it.

I wasn't totally won over by the first album bar a song or two (White Winter Hymnal is epic). I prefer this - sounds bigger, more varied. Only had a listen and a half or so, but I definitely think it's an improvement.

Still don't know if I prefer it to their first album. I find I'm skipping the song with the deranged trumpet near the end, something I haven't done yet with the first album. I really like Grown Ocean.

Brilliant album. Better than their first in my opinion.

Can't wait to see them in the marquee. If it's as good as the Grizzly Bear / Midlake gig there last year it's gonna be some night.

I think that the first album is amazing. Helplessness Blues is a true epic of a song. REally amazing lyrics and get build up.

REally like the lyrics to the opener 'Montezuma' espically the first verse. Really current for me anyhow.

How amazing is Robin's voice on The Shrine / An Argument

    The new album is beautiful.
I didn't think it would be as good as their debut, but it truly is wonderful.

I'm going to get it in the next week, I've heard great things about it

Owen Pallett is supporting in Cork.

I think it pips their first, definitely. Funnily enough though, for all the complexity and longwinding instrumental bits they've added to their sound, the title track has an endearing simplicity- almost Dylan-esque (can I say that?) that's addictive.

It's a stronger album overall, where FF had a few standout tracks surrounded by decent ones, this feels like a much more complete and meaningful effort.

That's great news. Heard it might the the Villagers, but this is even better.

not totally sold on the new one tbh - it is growing on me, and I like the S&G influence, but its also a bit meandering and lacking in tunes compared to the debut (I do like the jazz freakout bit though....)

The jazz freakout is supposedly trumpeter swans that live near Seattle. Been listening to it now for a bit...I cannot decide which is the better album.

i love the new album!but still not sure which of the two albums i prefer though as theyre both great :D my favourite track has to be the shrine/ an argument though, its like 2 songs in one <3 not feeling the crazy instrumental at the end though :/

Really like it as an album, think the title track is the standout album track and is possibly their best yet. You can see they've grown and added an extra level to their songwriting, harmonies and melodies.

It's got a very early Neil Young/Crazy Horse sort of feel to it even without the Montezuma/Zuma link.

Was at their show yesterday in the Hammersmith Apollo. It was the last gig of tour before they take a short break and they were in top form.

Mostly played songs from Helplessness Blues but there were a good few from the first album sprinkled throughout.
Apart from the f**kers who talk constantly it was an excellent gig.
Anyone going to see them in Cork or Belfast should be in for a treat.

The album is OK. More a guilty pleasure on account of its meanderng Dylanisms. But it's got more pace than the first one.

saw them on jools holland recently, and wasn't blown away. Great vocal harmonies, but the songs don't do much for me at all.....

    It's good but I wouldn't say it's great.

First album had some great standout tracks ("White Winter Hymnal" and "He Doesn't Know Why" in particular) amid some filler.
This one, while not having any weak tracks as such, doesn't really have any standouts for me. "The Plains/Bitter Dancer" and "Loralai" are probably my favourites so far but wouldn't say they stand out, as such.

It may be a grower though.
