    Hello!

Starting a new job. I'm from UK, so not sure how it works here, but studied here. How do my employers verify my education information? Can this be given out over phone by coll? Does it have to be I that requests a transcript? Can a person verify simple things like a conference of a degree? Dates of attendance etc.? This would save some pain if its the case.

    This page says the following:
2 What type of background checks can I carry out on potential employees?
The key to compliance with data protection requirements in this area is to inform the potential employee of any potential checks that may be undertaken and seek their specific consent for certain types of checks, e.g., release of transcripts by University. Any information that is legitimately in the public domain can also be accessed within the context of data protection requirements without giving rise to concerns. Certain sectors, where employees have contact with children or vulnerable adults, are permitted to make use of Garda Vetting checks which are carried out with the consent of the person.

So it sounds like if you emailed them to say that you're happy for them to request these details from your college, then it should be OK. Perhaps CC'ing your college might help as well.

Some colleges won't release details over the phone. Usually the employer would ask to see your transcript and then take a copy and give you the original back. Or sometimes it's as easy as googling your name and your college as often the graduation lists are online.
