Is yob culture and football hooliganism truly ''Irish'' behaviour ?

If you think about the behaviour of certain SRFC or Boh's fans or the increase in random attacks on strangers in Dublin city centre, this type of behaviour in my opinion always used to be looked down upon as ''Tan'' or ''Knacker'' behaviour.

We always used to think in the land of Joyce, Beckett etc that we were a cut above that type of thing, and even the average working-class Irish person were well read and erudite in comparison with members of the lower socio-economic orders of other countries.

I think it can be traced to the rise and fall of the Celtic Tiger, slavishly following US/UK style social policies and their accent on individualism.

League of Ireland fan here. St. Patricks Athletic.

Have to say the violence is garnered from scanger sub-culture and the influence 80s and 90s european hooliganism has had on the Irish scum.

They do not represent the majority of fans, cost the garda a lot of money, and earn clubs a bad name.
