Seriously? I would of thought joining the priesthood was about more than just having a job.

Its probably immigrants pushing the numbers up. Seem to remember a Polish priest being interviewed in Donegal.

Indeed. There was a thread about priestly vocations on this forum recently. There were many good resources provided.

I didnt even know the priesthood was a ''job'' lol. I thought all you get is your breakfast dinner and lunch and one car between the lot of you to travel here and there. It's a life of poverty and service and the Lord provides through the Church, which includes the hierarchy and lay people.

To answer the Ops question. If you mean it is due to the recession because its humbled us and is making Ireland return to God then yes this could be it.

The Church has been at all time lows in past centuries, albeit in Ireland or Europe it happens and then it rises again.

At a guess, around 70-80ish in the seminary at present.

I doubt the recession would be a just enough reason to make a man even consider the seminary.

Wealthy people can join the seminary aswell you know! It's not just a case of "I'm poor so priesthood for me then"..
