My laptop hates me...

Please help! I don't even know if this is in the right forum or not..

My laptop connection to the internet is borderline haunted. The internet connection works on every other laptop or pc in the house, and the laptop says the signal is excellent, but when I go to a web page it just says 'server not found'. Also every few days it will start working for a couple hours and then stop again.

Too early to call the ghost busters?

    Any other ideas?

have you tried a different web browser? thats the first thing id suggest.. google chrome, firefox or internet explorer..
    that rules out the browser.
after that you need to test to see you are connected to the network...someone can walk you through checking that...

id also suggest trying to see if you can connect to a different internet connection elsewhere...meaning its specifically your laptop

i guess most of that has been checked so far..

no other browsers work, as already demonstrated i have little to no knowledge of computers so what i mean by 'its connected to the internet' is the thing on my taskbar says it is and so does the control panel 'network connections' yokey. bar that, im in college on boards on the laptop now so the connection seems fine everywhere else except my house....

any other suggestions perhaps? thanking you!

maybe you have blocked internet by some firewall??
Also you may have trusted ip's list on router and your laptop's ip is not there.

First has the laptop ever connected and been used on the network without a problem?

Have you updated the wifi card driver? You should get the new drivers from the computer manufacture website normally under there support section.

One of the main things to do is go to start >control panel> Internet options> Connections> Lan Settings> Automatically Detect settings should be ticked.

Maybe a virus but maybe not.

Download malwarebytes from filehippo.com run and see if anything comes up.

well first of all im not exactly sure what an ip or a router is...

they laptop worked for months and literally just stopped one day. i tried it in a different house earlier on with the same upc connection but it wont work in there either. AAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHH.

its not the browser, not the firewall, the automatic settings thing is checked and it still has excellent signal strength but no web pages will come up. although if im downloading something it will keep downloading, i just get a webpage....

although the connection did stop working the day after my exams finished so maybe it just wants a holiday for a while...
