Semi-permanent or permanent colour over highlights?

Hope I have the right forum for this!

I have naturally dark blonde to a mousy brown hair colour and have always had highlights. I find they are gone too blonde now though. I am getting married in seven months and want to go back more natural. I decided to make an appointment with my hairdresser to discuss this. However when I rang the hairdressers my regular hairdresser has left.... As you can imagine I panicked..I have been going to her for three years and shes been amazing. I don't know where she left for. I decided to book an appointment with another hairdressers. I called in today to discuss with the lady who will do my hair about what I want. She suggested a semi-permanent colour over the highlights to darken them. However I would have thought a permanent would be better as the semi-perm is just going to fade out after a few washes and I will be left with my rootsout a mile. They are already out 2inches.
Can anyone tell me why she would suggest a semi-perm and not a permanent?? will a perm not work over the highlights?
Its really expensive as well for a semi-perm and trim. I was quoted 103eur. When I was getting a full head of highlights and trim it was never more than 120!! How can they justify charging so much for a semi perm!?:eek::eek::eek:

I don't understand. Do you want to stay blonde? The natural thing I'd assume would be to get slightly darker highlights with a light brown lowlight. If you use an all-over colour, you'll be completely changing your hair colour, rather than toning it down. Is that what you're after?

I want dye it as close to my natural colour and then leave it until the wedding to highlight it. What i was planning to do was just let the hoghlights i have now to grow out but my roots are really bad. So i guess i just want to cover these and give my hair a break from highlighting

Semi permanents tend to grab to the hair better. The difference between semi & permanent is that a semi will fade out, permanent will grow out. You would only use a permanent to cover grey or if you want to lighten your natural colour a shade or two. Semi's will not lighten your hair. Plus, if you're planning on getting highlights again in the near future the semi will be easier to get out.

The price seems reasonable enough to as it's a colour correction.
