Safari Update

    Hey everyone!

I'm working with a Mac OS x 10.5.4. I have always had problems updating software as the software updater can't connect to the internet for some reason.

I've tried to download updates manually but I can't seem to find an update for Safari. I have Safari version 3.1.2 but any update I download says I need a different version!

    Any advice? Thanks :)

Are you using any firewall or AV software? Do other applications connect to the internet okay? Safari for example?

I'm not sure, but 3.1.2 might be the latest version you can use with 10.5.4. You'll need to update the OS first. So lets try and get Software Update working. If that fails you can download a combo update.

What happens if you do a Software Update via Terminal.app?

Type man softwareupdate in the Terminal for details.
Use it with the -L switch to get a list of available updates.

Sorry for the late reply!! Thank you for the replies.

I might be completely out of my depth on this one!! I've no technical knowledge with macs, haha its like a different language!!

I've no problem using the internet on Safari or Mozilla. I just can't connect via the software update.

I wanted to download the new safari programme but mine is too old.

You'll need to update the OS first
How do I do this

Do you know if you use a proxy to connect to your network? If not, have a look at the proxy settings in System Preferences > Network > Airport > Advanced > Proxy. Uncheck the box for HTTPS.

    It was unchecked already!

I might give them a call tomorrow and see if they can help. Although I don't remember them being too helpful the last time!!

    Thanks a mil!

Is HTTP or auto proxy checked?

Wouldn't it be easier to just download the update combo to upgrade to 10.5.8 manually ? This could be downloaded to any machine to a USB stick and installed. The download is available here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL866

The problem with being unable to contact the update server from Software Update is a common enough one, some fix suggestions here:http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2383

I think downloading the update manually is the best option though and will more than likely resolve the automatic Software Update issue.

    Ken
