Changing mrs cyrus car and getting something else, it will be jointly owned, she will drive it to and from work every day (say 10k there and back) and ill probably end up driving at all other times, mileage should be fairly evenly split.

When insuring it, who should be the lead insured, should be cheaper for me, ive full ncb and a licence for 10 years or so whereas she only got her licence 3 years ago

there's you answer, unless the car is registered in her name? I've heard some insurance companies will only insure the registered owner as the main driver for private cars.

edit..keep in mind, if you insure the car in your name, and the missus has an accident that is her fault, it's your no claims that will suffer.

good points there, maybe i need to get some quotes see what the difference is, we can register the car in either name, havent sent the form back yet :)

Why dont you just throw the various details into the insurance websites and see whats cheaper.

Only the owner can insure the car - other person is a named driver.

Ask the insurer, one driver uses the car daily for work commute and the other uses it for evenings and weekends :)

We use to insure the car in my name for one year, and my wifes the next year, that way we both kept our full NCB.

I think its because when you let your insurence go over two years without renewing it you will have to start the bottom again, eg no "no claim bonus"

My head says go with the insurance that is cheaper! It will probably be you as you have been driving longer! I think if you are a named driver you still have a ncb! Maybe you should ask the insurance companies just in case?

As far as I know, the insured must be the owner except in the case of a married couple where the spouse of the owner can be the insured. Id say it will be cheapest to have her as insured and you named.

Pretty certain that is the case here in England. For that reason I would have said to do it year about even if it were to mean changing the registered owner each time.
