Ive a Greenline HT plus heat pump rubbing just over three years now but lately i seem to notice the hot water temp dropping within 5-10 mins of reaching cut off temp and the pump coming back on to bring it back up again, We got an ESB bill the other day and it is nearly €200 more than same period last year even though ive the pump on summer mode for about 6 weeks now, Ive been on to my installer and he says its normal to do that with the hot water but he could check it out if i got a service (costing €130) so not much joy there unless i part money, Has anyone noticed this as problem or am i just after noticing something that was always happening. Thanks in advance

    Hi Alderdeer

This is a straight forward problem with the 3 port valve not rotating all the way into position. This allows some of the hot water in your cylinder to leak back out and probably into your heating system (which i would guess is underfloor). This problem happens most commonly with underfloor. This drives you're running cost up and wont go away by itself. The warranty on that heat pump is now gone as the importer/distributer has been liquidated and even though they have set up a new company under the same name in the same building the wont help you. If i ever have difficulty with my heat pump i contact a service guy, Kevin, working for a company called Ashgrove renewables www.ashgrove.ie We've always found him very good and he'll help you over the phone if possible.

    Best of luck

Come back if you need further help

squiremaguire is right about that 3 port, very common problem across a range of heat pumps. Can result in unnecessarily high running costs and in some cases over heating of UFH & under heating of Hot Water.

Also just to note that Kevin (i.e. míse) is no longer with that company and has setup my own renewable energy servicing and repair company (non install). Please PM me if any questions.

I hope this isn't deemed self promotion by boards, hence witholding company name and contact details.
