    Hi,

Currently drive a 02 318Ci 2.0L Petrol. Fuel economy is pretty good at about 28mpg for mostly city driving. I am thinking of changing as I have 1 child with a second on the way.

Need a bigger car with rear doors. Am considering the 520d but I don't want to spend more than a few K in the change.

    Any suggestions?

Can't see a few k getting you a 520d with yours when trading in

You'll pick up a nice 01-02 E39 520d msport for about €5k. As to what you'd get for your own, i'm not sure.

Your own will depend on condition and spec. but anywhere between 4K -4,8 would be achievable.

You would get a reasonable E39 in that year/bracket. Make sure proper checks are carried out on it.

Does it have to be diesel? Cause the 520d will prob be out of your budget. Why not look at the petrol 520.

    Something like these:

I'd sy u will get about 4k tops for yours .

What about a Mondeo zetec? It has all the gizmos and acres of room.
I just changed from a 316 to a mondeo zetec saloon as now have 2 small kids and am very happy. The boot size is enormous and the car comes with loads of extras

I though the E39 520d was only ever sold on the Continent?

I think you're right, I only assumed there was 520d's available in the E39 because the OP inferred as much. I'd do as everyones suggesting and plunge for a petrol.

E39 520d was facelift LHD only. But an E39 525d is quite a lot nicer if you do the milage to justify a diesel.
