€200 Meteor data bill

    Hi All,
I'm on a Meteor plan with the "unlimited" Internet add-on. I exceed my 10Gig cap last month and got a bill of over €200. I know that there is an EU data roaming cap of €50 law but this does not apply as it was local use.

I remember being told by one of their support members some time ago that I'd receive a text message when my cap had been reached but this did not happen, nor is there any mention of the text message warning in the Meteor T&C's. I've also read in this forum that the most they will charge for data is €50 anyway, Is this correct?

Am I screwed or is there a valid way to get out of paying this?

There is no way to "get out" of paying the bill you've clocked up. You can contact Meteor and ask them to discount it, but they are not obliged to do that. They might though, if you're nice. If you go demanding and shouting, then they will not help you.

If it's a rule on roaming then no it wouldn't apply for domestic bills.
Go with what jor el suggested and if you can prove you never got a text about your data usage then forward that to them as well, undeleted texts from before the month you went over and possibly (Unlikely) one after if you went over.

As far as I remeber, it's meteor policy to to set a data billshock limit of €50 on phone account, I don't believe there was ever such a policy for mobile broadband accounts

Thanks everybody for the replies. Hopefully I get the bill reduced to the 'data' shock' amount of €50.

While reading the Meteor website under the 'mymeteor' site, I came across the following feature which sends you an SMS text when you are exceeding you cap. Its a pity that it only applies to day-rates:
    Usage Alerts - Home

If you are using Mobile Internet or Mobile Broadband in Ireland, you will have a data allowance associated with your price plan.
You will receive a text message when you have exceeded your allowance unless you choose not to from the menu below. For Mobile Internet this is currently only available for Daily Mobile Internet pricing - Mobile Internet Add On's are not
