08 Seat Leon Tsi Sport - change shocks?

    Hi,

I've an 08 Seat Leon Tsi (125bhp) Sport.
It's a lovely car - but the ride is too firm and would take the back teeth out of you. You can even get a bit sea-sick with just a little bit of minor undulation on an otherwise smooth motorway!

I'm going to get a drive in a friends non-sport leon to compare and see is it any better.

    Question:
    1) do you think it would be straightforward to swap the shocks of my leon for something less harsh?
    2) would it need more than the shocks changing?
    3) could I source the parts myself and get someone like Advance Pitstop to do the change?

    Any advice appreciated!

    Check the tyre pressures.

What wheels have you got on it? Anything bigger than 16s on them with the sports shocks is a disaster. I'd assume that you can just swap out the rear shocks (which is the only difference) from a stylance or whatever.

Have the same car myself and before I bought it I was advised to make sure that there wasn't anything bigger than 16's as the ride was rough.

Cheers - it has the same wheels as this guy.

I don't think they're bigger than 16... normal tyre on it too (not low profile)

Any further advice much appreciated - or is it just a rough car?!

Yeah, they are 16s. I had 17s on my old one and it was back breaking. Try and have a test drive in a stylance or even a costa spec one. They are on 16s and don't have the sports shocks on the back like yours. If it's acceptable then swap the shocks. It will still be a bit choppy though I'd say. Whoever set up those should be shot. I test drove a cupra when replacing it and that was a much smoother car with the aluminium suspension bits.

    Thanks EPM.

    Anyone experience with these shocks?
    http://www.koni.com/49.html

A quick ebay shows it at €500 for a set of 4
Probably €400 or so for labour...

Bit pricey for a solution that only might work?

Have a look on seatcupra.net. People that have used Koni shocks have been very happy with the result. Try Onkle on here too to see if he can get you a price on something;)
