Its a pretty common problem apparantly and I believe there is an uprated
steering bracket or mount available which can be installed to avoid it from happening. A little late in your case but maybe worth getting after the repair which is probably pretty costly .

Wheeler Dealers mentioned this issue last week. The preventitive option is a better bracket, but once the damage is done the repair is expensive. Access to the bulkhead must mean a lot of stuff has to be removed.

That is a great price. Worth picking up the preventative kit aswell though. Think wheeler dealers mentioned it sharpened up the steering aswell.

I have a similar problem with my 2002 Saab 9-3. I installed a 6 point sub frame brace. I called Saab in Sweden and they referred me to Saab Ireland. Saab Ireland returned my called and referred me to George Corbett's in Waterford. My Saab had already been to this garage a few months earlier where they told me there was nothing wrong with the car.

The check is that you start the car, put it in neutral and turn the steering wheel lock to lock while looking at the foot pedals. If there is movement in the pedals you may have an issue with the bulkhead crack.

Here is the Wheeler Dealers show that others are referring to:

We loves our Saabs so we do. :)

Actually for anyone who thinks they might have this problem with their Saab it may be worth calling Saab Ireland - (who are known as ScanVeco for some strange reason).

Their number is 01 4698700 but may have changed since I called them because of goings on with Saab company in Sweden lately.

When I called the guy that answered mentioned that he was surprised if my car had the problem because it has been driven mostly in the country. I took this to mean that it is caused by effect of speed humps on the cars driven mostly in towns and cities.

In the UK Saab have paid for the repairs because it is a safety issue. It's no different here - it's a safety issue - so you should ask Saab to pick up the bill if you have the problem - (that is if Saab still exists)

Ha - because the country bog roads are flat.

There are dips around where I live that stress my cruisers suspension.
