Bachelor of Business Studies - International

    Hi folks

I had made a quick thread a while back regarding that the International Business Studies w/ Languages was discontinuing but was being ammended to Bachelor of Business Studies - International.

I was wondering if anyone at all knows or has any information in regards if the modules for the languages will still be the same? i.e Will language specific modules throughout the course remain unchanged when the course is ammended? I was going to apply for the Japanese language with Business and liked the modules for the IBLJ course such as Translation, Culture & Society and Culture Business & Marketing etc

I had contacted DCU Business School before (in Feb) but they said the new module updates had not been done yet. Was just curious if anyone who may be studying Business right now may know themselves (since possibly may be a cross-over of ammendment for their next year?) perhaps lecturers or department heads may have said somthing about it. Or perhaps does anyone know when module updates usually happen?

I'm quite anxious to know as I will be starting preparations for my CAO application for 2012 and need to know which I will be putting first so I can prepare well in advance for my application.

    Thanks! :)

If you're planning on doing Japanese you should be largely unaffected by the change as the course has always only had one language. The major changes will come to the bilingual courses AFAIK. The removal of IBL was due to a strategic review by the Business school and they decided to dump it because of the high failure rate in bilingual sections such as French/Spanish. Up until then the course had been a joint venture between the Business school and SALIS (school of applied languages and intercultural studies). SALIS were more or less left in the dark and probably still are as to their future role. The French and Spanish classes were generally separated depending on whether you did IBL(Business) or ALIS(translation) but the Japanese classes have always been shared by both courses and that is likely to continue as their isn't demand for two separate Japanese groups. You're best bet is to phone the course director to find out specifics. I do IBL and it is an excellent course with good job opportunities and I assume that the new course will be too.

Thanks for the reply. So essentially it's only affecting the double or bi-lingual courses but won't affect the single language courses in any way? So the modules for the single language business courses will remain (very largely) unchanged or unaffected?

Ill get in touch with the course director anyway soon, thanks for the info :)

It would seem that way, but the best thing is really to get in contact with the admin, there could e changes although I don't really see it happening for the Japanese classes.

Just letting people know, more information regarding this course that may be of concern - The course will only be accepting approx 40 places, regardless of your chosen language. Quite a drop as last year when I made initial enquires it was approx 175 places. So it will most likely be a bit tougher to get into because of competition for these places.
