    *Awaits Volvomans response*

They are a savage car and fairly rare. The price for that seems a little strong but the mileage is very low. I was looking at a black 08 only yesterday they are well kitted out with all the toys..

I had a 2005 S60 and my biggest gripe about it was that Volvo radios do not have a mute terminal to facilitate the muting of the radio by an aftermarket phone kit. I bought the car secondhand so had to live with this restriction, this meant that when I had a phone kit fitted, an incoming call did not mute the radio which was a major pain.

I looked at that ad. and there is no mention of a factory-fitted phone kit so check the situation and ask if things have changed since.

[shamelessly mutilated from Alan Partridge]It's not a grey Mondeo, it's a gunmetalic Volvo[/shamelessly mutilated from Alan Partridge]

Seriously though, the Mondeo origins are excellent and the Volvo packaging make it that bit more pleasant place to be (Volvo seats come highly recommended) and a little bit more exclusive place to be seen.

great car, the diesel is quite nice ....

nice bit of kit.... but will depreciate like a brick.....

I like that car a lot.

    There I said it.

You couldn't buy it if you were worried about the depreciation - but maybe you're not.

any idea what a 08 2.0D SE Lux sold for when new just to get an idea of what kind of depreciation this one had had in the 3yrs?

Looking on their website the current SE LUX is about 43k for the existing 2.0D but its a more pwerful engine from what I can make out now

lovely car , needs a bigger engine but aside from that exterior looks well and the interior is comfy looking

Top-Car. Most lightly that the rear seats don't fold down if you ever need them to - it is something that a lot of people expec to be standard on a car.

I'll dig it out in the morning. Haven't a clue off the top of my head.

I had a V70 2.0d last year and was a bit dissapointed with it, but that was after coming from an S60 D3.

The interior on the one you linked is lovely. Most of them have the all cream / beige interior. If you search Driving.ie for all S80's there is a D5 auto with similar mileage and lower price, but it has the light interior.

We just sold a 2.0i FF SE LUX. Gorgeous looking car, but got very little money for it :(

That bronze is a nice colour on that auto. Looks like most of them come with the cream interior which is a pity

I bought one last week, first of the newer models, 05 petrol turbo, and there is nothing that comes close to it for the money. Lovely motor, very smooth and quiet, great build and spec, and hallf the price of an equivalent German saloon.

A friend of mine bought one of these new in 2008, a 2.0D Flexifuel, reckon it was about 45k. He got rid of it in less than 6 months on the basis that it was massively underpowered. He'd had an S60 in the dim and distant past and went to the dealer with another friend who was rolling over her s60 and was tempted into buying the s80. He regretted it and he's not particularly a speed merchant. Found it struggled to take off and mid range accleleration on the motorway was non existent. A pity as I thought the car was beautiful - black exterior with cream leather interior.

    There's a diesel flexi-fuel?
The 2.4 diesel is the one to go for.

    I have a 2010 S80 2.4 D5 SE Executive Geartronic.

I had a look at a Merc E 270 and while it did everything it said on the tin it left me cold. The Volvo is magnificent. Great fun to drive and its like driving in a big armchair.

The bluetooth hands free kit works really well, sound system is wonderful, plenty of room and the acceleration is awesome.

    Hope that helps.

They do fold down, also you have the ski hole in the middle of the back seats.

My one was €64k plus €4 of extras. I'm not bothered about depreciation as the company I work for gave me half the cost. I just wanted something different. I got €21k on the 08 Passat I traded in, which I thought was lousy as it cost me €49k.(2.0tdi DSG)

Are you sure you weren't missing a mute lead?

I got a parrot Mki9200 installed in my 2006 S40 last month. I had to pay €30 extra for a mute lead and works perfectly. Every call I receive and make on my iPhone mutes the radio. Great kit!

If it feels like a big armchair, then it's not much fun to drive;)!

Not that driving pleasure matters in a Volvo anyway. Volvos are unashamedly not about driving pleasure.

I admire anyone that chooses a Volvo for being able to think for themselves and not following the herd to the usual predicatable boring German saloon.

Am I the only one that thinks that 134 bhp in a car the size of an S80 is not enough? I know it's a Volvo, and not only do I not expect a Volvo to go like a rocket, a Volvo does not need to be that quick either, but it does need to be reasonably effortless, and I don't think 134 bhp is enough.

That said, people have driven the 1.6 S80 with its measley 107 bhp and it is supposed to be surprisingly ok, so maybe the 2.0D is fine in them, though I'm sceptical.

    I would be looking for the 2.5T or the D5 if I was after a 2008 S80.

Automatic is a pre-requisite with something like this; driving a Volvo is meant to be as relaxing an experience as possible, and that means you shouldn't have the inconvenience of changing gear yourself;)!

2l diesel is just for peaceful drivers because S80 is not so light, but it consume not too much diesel so it's nice if we talk about efficiency.

€43k for a 2 litre TDI with DSG box? Surely you have that incorrect. At the moment you can get the 170bhp DSG Passat highline for around the €35k mark. VW did reduce prices since 2008, but not by 8k. And 6k of extras over and above a Highline? What the hell had you in it? :D
Seriously though, you'll never get back any extras you put in when trading, maybe 1 or 2k tops.

Is the V8 one the only one with twin rear exhausts because I saw one yesterday going down Dawson st and though "that must be a high spec one - good god the depreciation will be horrific !"

Nonsense - I have put a good few miles on a V50 and its got a lovely chassis ( because its a focus I know ). It's a very nice car to shuffle down a twisty road in. Ask any owner of a T5 or R if they're not about driving pleasure.

thats a drop of 9k on the list price in 3yrs ?? Would that be right?

Lovely looking cars and always a head turner I think. Going to pick one up in a year or 2 I reckon. You'd really have to get the D5 though to fully appreciate it would be my opinion.

Happened on a lot of the bigger stuff. I blame/thank BMW.

Put a late 07 520d SE Auto out to a new customer while he's waiting for his new 5 series to come in. Fusion Artificial Leather and a couple of small extra's - value for BIK = €59k

Majority of Diesels came down in July 08, stuff in that bracket by quite a lot to match the 5 Series, then when Mercedes launched the E Class it undercut the 5 Series by about €3,000, so BMW retaliated with the F10 and brought that in on par. Volvo had to re-adjust to keep pace with the Big boys.

Have you ever driven a volvo?

I thought the same but the new ones are not like that at all. My 05 S40 seems stuck to the road, and great fun to drive. I think the armchair feel is because the seats are so comfortable.
