I am about to go out to tender but want to know if my build spec will be acceptable to homebond

tried calling and emailing only to be told that I need to be regsitered with them

    seems a bit catch 22
    • need to be registered to get advice,
    • need advice before going out to tender
    Any suggestions

Specifically interested in what their comments would be on
    • a 200 or 250 cavity wall - block/cavity/block
    • EPS foundation (Aerobord, Isoquick, Supergrund ...)

They are simply an insurance scheme

Its the builder thats registered with them, so if you want a house registered by them you have to use a homebond registered contractor.

understand that - but surly they will only insure certain build make ups - or do they rely on anything an architect or engineer will sign off on.

    Is it
    • "its signed off so its ok " or is it
    • "you can only build to the following different build specs" ??

Homebond covers any specification that is built to building regulations.

Alternative to homebond is premier guarantee and they will generally answer your questions. Coyle hamilton sell the product in ireland (no connection)

The "homebond or similar" products are simply a structural guarantee and they do not give a great deal of cover despite the high perception that everyone generally seems to have on the product.

Once it can be demonstrated that the works comply with the relevant standard and is fit for the purpose proposed for, then Homebond or the Premier Guarantee Scheme are generally satisfied. However if one uses a method outside of the ordinary (extra wide cavity), you may be required to provide evidence of compliance and the designer may be requested to stand over it.
If you've engaged a competent professional to prepare proper tender and construction drawings and documents, then you should have nothing to worry about.
