we stayed a week last year in our camper.
Beautiful campsite right on the sea in an amazing part of the kingdom of Cornwall.
Great base to expore the area with some of the most beautifully picturesque fishing villages i have ever seen.
Site was clean, well run with friendly owners Ron and Jo.
Farmhouse kitchen served fresh scones every day and free range eggs were available on site from their hens.

If you get to this part of the U.K. this site is worth the trip.

Wild camping in the forest car park. Seems accepted no hassle and facilities at the mountain biker centre, cafe, toilets, showers.

Heading around this area for 10 days in May, plan is Swansea - Cardiff - Cornwall area. Any recommendations along that route? We want to stick to the coast aswell, in the hope of a bit of swell.

Just back from 10 days in Wales/SW England. List of campsites stayed at below (in order):
      [*]Fishguard Bay - Fishguard, Wales
A short overnight stay after getting off late ferry. Friendly staff and great facilities. Can't remember the price off the top of my head.

      [*]Seven Acres - Frome, Somerset
Stayed here to be close to Stonehenge, nice area with plenty of shops within driving distance. It was a Caravan Club site run by a nice old lady! £16 for the night, with electrics. Facilities were decent.

      [*]Croyde Bay - Croyde, Devon
Croyde is a nice area, suprised how far the beach was away from the village and campsites. The tatch is the place to go for grub and drink, good night life there too. Get the nachos, best I've ever had!!

Campsite was a little bit of a let down, wasn't that many around and were charging £26 a night. That's without electrics and a non-hardstanding pitch. They were upgrading the facilities at the time but they were pretty basic. In hindsight I'd either stay in the carpark or campsite closer to the beach.

[*]Hendra Holiday Park - Newquay, Cornwall
Newquay needs no introduction, stayed a bit out of town in the Hendra Holiday Park. £12.50 a night, absolute bargain! Great facilities, including discount entry to the Oasis water park (£2.50), decent grub and drink to be had in the park too.

It's a little too far from town to walk but plenty of taxi's available. Fistral beach is well worth a visit.

[*]Ayr Holiday Park - St.Ives, Cornwall
We found this by accident driving around the town. It's a short 10 minute walk into town (downhill) from the campsite. Nice views and by far the best facilities we had on the trip. Toilets were spanking, all modernised and showers were the monsoon type ones. £22.50 for the night, without electrics again. Highly recommended, great little town too with plenty to do nearby.

[*]Minehead & Exmoor Caravan Park - Minehead, Somerset
We stopped off here on our way back towards Wales. Originally wanted to stay in Poorlock but the campsite there was not accepting visitors after 7pm. Poorlock seemed like a nice village with lovely restaurants. We drove back towards Minehead and entered the town, what a kip!!

We stayed in a campsite a little outside of the town, £16 a night. Owner was friendly but the campsite was a little rundown. Facilities were dirty and damp. Couldn't wait to get out of the place! Owner recommended Hairy Dog downtown for food, we went there for a disgusting microwaved meal. Avoid!!

[*]Kiln Park Holiday Centre - Tenby, Wales
We originally planned to stay in the Three Cliffs Caravan Park, looked like a nice family run campsite with what was voted "the best view from a campsite in the world" by the Independent in 2006. Weather was atrocious so we motored on out of the Gower to find somewhere a little more sheltered.

Tenby was a nice town, lots of history. The town is contained within medieval walls and plenty of beaches nearby. People were very friendly and got fantastic food in the Bucanneer Inn. Portions were massive, prices reasonable and the fish pie was amazing!!

Campsite was nice, loads of options for food/drink and plenty to do. In the evening they have Unisex toilets which was a bit strange. Otherwise a nice campsite. Think it was around £16 a night.

      [*]Caerfai Bay - St.Davids, Wales
Last two days we spent around St.Davids, campsite was nice. Great views, friendly staff and good facilities. Price was £13.50 a night, again without electricity, and is a 10 minute walk from the town.

There's lots of good free guides on the area and worth visiting the surrounding area. Farmers Arms is good for drink. We had food in the Sound Cafe and The Bishops Inn, both good options for food.

If I was to go back again I'd spend more time in Wales around Pembrokshire and the Gower rather than SW England. I think its a lot friendlier and less commercialized. Everywhere south of Newquay was really nice, the likes of Perranporth and Porthreath but pity about the lack of options for camping though. Great trip!!

Cheers stevire, really useful post. Thinking of heading down that way camping with the wife and kids in the first week of August.
