Hi folks, i'm in the process of getting an extension done. Everything was going grand till the builder got to the roof, he wanted to use tiles instead of slates (in his words there easyer to work with). Now the roof is leaking, I also got a velex window installed and he never installed one before.
For the roof tile he got a quinn tile to match the house but I thing its wrong. The pitch of the roof is about 18 degress. Its 16 long by 15 foot wide. I'm looking for a roof tile/slate f.or a low pitch roof because the builder is after been up on the roof the last 4 days, saying i'll fix it but I dont think he can with the tiles that we have.

    I need someones help now.

    Cheers. John

sounds like your in a fair bit of trouble there. I don't know if there are any roof tiles OR slate for such a low pitch roof. When I was doing my own extention I went for a metal roof, which looks great. I originally was looking to have a slate roof but couldn't find one suitable for my roof pitch. The pitch of my own roof was 24 deg. Also the regular velux are made for a roof with minimum 22 I think ( should be on the catalog which you can view online. I put in 4 but to be on the safe side we built up the sides and top of the opening so the pitch for the window was 25 deg.

Sorry my post hasn't been more helpful. best of luck with finishing the project.

There are tiles available for pitches as low as 17.5 degrees. From reading the post it appears that you have a "handy man" engaged rather than a tradesman. For your own good you should tell him to either get a tradesman to work with him to sort the tiling and the velux installation or else gtfo your roof.

Sorry if that seems blunt but its for your own good.

I'll move this to the main C & P forum.

You can go lower on the pitch as Muffler says, but you will need an exact specification from the roof tile manufacturer for the low pitch.
I.E. extra lap on roof membrane, counterbattening, increased headlap on the tiles themselves.
Contact Quinn's technical department and ask for a specification for your roof pitch.
You need to get tough on your 'builder'
