I was going to get one a few months back. They were the cheapest of any 32" i could find. Problem was that reviews of the brand were extremely poor. A work colleague also told me their experience of the brand wasn't the greatest.

Ended up buying a samsung instead.

    Amazon.co.uk now deliver 32" TV's to Ireland.

€25.00 more gets you the excellent LG 32LD450, Saorview and RTE Digital Teletext work seamlessly on it.

Full HD 1080p / Great build quality.

Powercity also do the LG 32LD450 for €299.00 if bricks and mortar is the more attractive option.

€250.00 for the Walker is good but the €25.00 extra for the LG makes sense imo.

Yes and Yes, it's as close to full compatibility as you can get without the TV being officially Saorview certified.

MPEG4 tuner & importantly MHEG5 middleware, which handles RTE digital Aertel perfectly.

Nice one.I presume Amazon have warranty on their TV's?It seems a much better TV than the Walker.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,019 ✭✭✭Badgermonkey

    Pros and Cons I guess.

Some folks will prefer to buy from a bricks and mortar store.

Walker is fully certified for Saorview / LG is not

Returning the set to A'zon is easy if there's a problem and they pay to have it couriered back.

    Warranty is provided by LG.

for an extra 49e you can get an LG full HD 32". Bought it last week.

Tesco Maynooth had a 26" Toshiba HD ready for 200e the other week.

I have one of the Walker sets and I would say that it is only OK. We have it in a spare room and it is mainly used by the kids for their programmes or for xbox 360. The picture is OK if you are looking straight at the tv but at any sort of angle then the colours are really washed out. The 4 year old panasonic lcd that we have in our sitting room is in a different league in terms of picture quality. I suppose it depends what you want it for, but if I was using it as my main tv I would be more likely to spend a little more cash and get something better. Saying that I couldn't get our Sky remote to work the TV as the code on the Walker website didn't work, so I sent them an email and I got a reply within an hour on a Saturday afternoon with a different code that worked straight away. So if that is what their customer service is like then I would be very impressed.

Walker are just a rebage job. Its the same crowd who used to do the black diamond range. They are a cheap brand and you get what you pay for. Dont expect too much and you will be grand.

LG has the tuner on-board which picks up Saorview signal, additional set-top box is not necessary.

I have a Walker TV for 3 years now and can't fault it.

Badgermonkey-did you still have to use an antenna?Thought I read somewhere that some people have to use an antenna to get saorview.I'm in the north east so hopefully there's a good signal.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,019 ✭✭✭Badgermonkey

Yes, you must use an aerial to receive Saorview.

I'd suggest you read their website, you can also check coverage in your area and it'll tell you which local transmitter relays your signal.

One final question-that LG comes with Freeview.Would I be able to receive that seeing as I live in the north east close to the border?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 147 ✭✭paddym1

Toby, I'm not sure about the North East, but I have a saorview-approved Walker, and in Wexford it picks up all of the UK Freeview channels (but I'm not sure if the BBC red-button feature works). If you have a stromg enough signal and a decent aerial I expect you would be OK.

Just to add. Dont get hung up on the telly being certified as Saorview. Read this thread. I learned loads before buying a new telly a few months back. There are countless televisions out there that have the features to pick up the Saorview signal and the digital teletext and EPG guide.

The current cheap TV bargains that will pick up Saorview and DTT are posted over on the terrestrial forum. (Start at €259 for a 32" - €149 for a 19"). Most of them play MKV/AVI straight from the USB port too.

    no, they dont start Start at €259 for a 32" - €149 for a 19".

What exactly is your problem ?

They do start at that price. I specifically identified the ones that work for Saorview. Not some cheap tat with the wrong hardware from argos/tesco OEM crap that WONT work. These would be premium brand names, not OEM no name products from Turkey.

In the cases where they are pixmania links (not all are), of course there would be shipping costs in those instances, but even still nothing in comparison to the Irish Shop prices for the same product or a lesser quality one.

Of particular note are the DID and Powercity links for the 32" TVs which are €150 cheaper than Harvey Norman for the same model. I track the prices on Saorview compatible products on a regular basis. These Samsung and LG products are being dumped from UK stock as they will not work for Freeview HD in the UK(not available here) and as such work perfectly for Saorview - The Irish DTT service (through their European hardware configuration and UK middleware). I do know what I am talking about. You dont need to take the advice should you think you know better. A lot of people get mugged buying the wrong/limited gear.

I suggest you get back in that bed and get out the other side. Thanks for the 40pt Font reply in the terrestrial forum.

people posting links to prices that dont include delivery is the problem.
it happens alot in the bargain alerts forum and is very annoying.
post the total price and then people can clearly see if it is a bargain or not

    .

maybe about tvs but not about bargains.
the LG 32LD450 with free delivery from amazon is the best bargain in this thread.
you dont seem to even know about all the bargains available from amazon, now that they have started to ship tvs to ireland and they have free delivery

Yes Tvs, more importantly compatible TVs with suitable integrated digital tuners and middleware (are you technical enough to understand why it is a bargain ??). I think I know the prices of these TVs so am therefore aware of what a bargain is. That is why I posted as such. I am well aware of amazons delivery policy. Even with that policy only the amazon deals that were cheaper than pixmania or DID/powercity/Irish walk in stores are actually listed.

If you understood any of this you wouldnt be making a complete muppet of yourself.

Now that I have explained this to you, do you have anything constructive to bring to this.

For anyone else who has been bored to tears reading this, the listings are genuine bargains. Use as you wish. I dont sell TVs!

OK,just bear with me for a moment-I'm seriously considering getting this LG for my bedroom, were I have an ordinary TV cable(which OH plugs in to watch terrestial TV) and another cable which shows Sky(from my living room) through one of those magic eye yokes.
If I get this TV,do I just stick in the ordinary TV cable and I'll get Saorview and possibly UK Freeview? Is there much tuning in involved?Or am I making it sound way too complicated??Excuse my lack of technical knowledge!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,178 ✭✭✭STB

Toby, Plug out the RF cable (for magic eye) from Tv and plug in aerial cable. The tuning is done automatically by the Digital Tuner.

You will get all the channels listed on freeview.co.uk and the Irish stations from Saorview - RTE1, 2, TV3, Tg4, 3e and Rte news now.

It will mean you can watch many channel upstairs and not just whats showing on the Sky box downstairs.

Most people do not reliase that 9 out of the top 10 channels watched in Ireland are actually FREE to air. You may wonder why you are paying Sky/NTL for this privelege, unless you subscribe for Sky Sports.

Thanks STB-Yeh,I watch a lot of sports so unfortunately have to pay for Sky Sports.
